New Color Furnace and other Hot Shop News
The color furnace is up and running! This new addition to the studio will hold two different colors, starting in September. Shown above are custom colors formulated and created from scratch by Hot Shop staff, including "Monsoon Blue" (left) and "Barrio Purple" (right).

"It is thrilling to have access to molten color in the studio! The colors turned out great and the possibilities fire the imagination. The color furnace holds two crucibles, each holding 40 pounds of the colored glass. Our plan is to switch the colors up every six to eight weeks." - Paul Anders-Stout, Hot Shop Director

This September, the color furnace will be available to rent for experienced glassblowers. Stay tuned for details.

OTHER HOT SHOP NEWS: The Hot Shop will be CLOSED from July 31st to August 31st for annual maintenance. This applies only to the Hot Shop . The Flame Shop and Warm Shop will remain open for classes, rentals, and other activities.

Student Artist of the Month: Natalie Sharka
How did you get started in glass?
I only started working with glass last September when I bought a Groupon for glass blowing with a friend. Being a serial crafter, I quickly fell in love with fusing and began hanging out at Sonoran Glass School, both taking classes and volunteering when needed.

Why did you become interested in kiln slumping and fusing?
I became interested in glass fusing a few years ago when a glass artist friend of mine invited me over to "play" with her glass scraps. She taught me some basics and I was hooked!!

What is your favorite part about working with glass?
My favorite part of working with glass is the fact that you are never educated enough. There is always more to learn and so many ways to be creative. It never gets old for me and I adore the many new friends I have made along the way.
