Pastor’s Message
Much has been said about this monumental year in the life of our church family, Cook’s United Methodist Church. We’re celebrating the faith and service of families who have been instrumental in loving our neighbors on behalf of Jesus and we will continue to do so throughout the year. We have also celebrated the spirit and strength of that “first” community of believers who gathered regularly on this hill. We will begin now to consider how we, through these 200 years, have been faithful to God’s call, God’s good news of love, and God’s covenant expectations to love and serve God by loving and serving others.

Forty-one presidents, 53 governors, 9 wars, 4 disease epidemic threats, 126 pastors … these are just a few numerical representations of all that has filled these past 200 years. There would be no way to literally count marriage vows made, babies born, funerals or memorials, and the innumerable holy moments that the people of God called Methodists have experienced on this hill. But we will pause long enough on Sunday, July 28 to attempt such. This year’s Homecoming weekend will be filled with opportunities to fellowship, make memories, find encouragement, and remember how God has met us where we are. We will, in worship, acknowledge the journey of faith that the Cook’s Church family has made, and the ways God has empowered us to be faithful to the Divine in the face of hardship, tragedy, discord, and glory.  Rev. Bill McAlilly, Resident Bishop of the Nashville Area of the United Methodist Church (Memphis and Tennessee Annual Conferences) will join us for our morning of worship followed by dinner on the grounds. Along with our Bishop, it is our hope that many of our former pastors will be able to join us to celebrate the history and legacy of the people of God in this place.

Mark your calendars now and invite your family, neighbors, and friends who have been impacted by Jesus through Cook’s UMC to join us. We hope to see you Homecoming Weekend at:
Community Outreach--Saturday, July 27 at 10:00 a.m., begin at Friendship Hall
4 th Annual Talent Show--Saturday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m., Friendship Hall
Worship--Sunday, July 28 at 9:30 a.m., Friendship Hall
Dinner on the Grounds immediately following worship

You are also invited to help us provide a feast for our neighbors and friends who will join us for dinner. The Church will provide the meat, paper products, and drinks …
If your last name begins with A-L please bring dessert
If your last name begins with M-Z please bring side dish

Thank you, in advance, for your hospitality as we welcome our community into our celebration of God’s love and faithfulness to us. God is good all the time!
Sandra

Samaritan Fund
Cook’s Samaritan Fund is part of our Missions Program. The dollars in this fund are used to help those in our community with immediate needs (utility bills, medication, gas or rent). Each applicant is required to present photo identification and a copy of the bill they are requesting assistance with to the church office on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11:00-1:00 pm. The money used to fund this account comes from the dollars left at the altar rail during communion.
Are You on Facebook?
You can help us spread Cook's news! It's easy: first, be sure to "Like" Cook's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/cooksumc/). Then keep your eye out for announcements, inspiration and invitations to worship. When they show up in your FB feed, "Like" or "Share" the posts. The more who do, the more people see it, even if they're not yet members and/or don't “Like” the CUMC page. Have photos from a church event or something you want to promote on social media? Send info/photos to Alison Nash or to the church office.
Electronic Giving Available
Electronic giving helps you stay current with your planned giving especially when on vacation or traveling. All records are locked in the church office, increasing confidentiality, while paper checks (which contain the same information) are part of the weekly counting process with rotating money counters. Contributions continue to be reflected on your year-end contribution statement, and contributions can be canceled or altered (such as the amount or change the bank account) at any time by simply contacting the church office. If you are interested in this easy and convenient way of giving please contact the church office.
