We are also in the process of developing our new and improved online directories accessible by the public, including "Find a Counselor" and our Presenters database. Be sure to log in and update your public information as well as add a photo of yourself so potential clients can find you!

EEF Grant Application Deadline is August 1st
The Educational Endowment Fund (EEF) provides professional development grants of up to $500 to individuals who have been members of TCA for at least 12 months prior to application. Grants are awarded for...

  • Course work toward completion of a graduate degree
  • Activities such as original research, conference attendance or specialized study
  • Other professional development or continuing education activities

Texas Association for Adult Development and Aging (TAADA)
When you hear someone shout, “Ta-dah!!, you normally think something exciting is about to happen. We associate that word with magic, with excitement, and with miracles. 

As counselors, we are in the miracle business, helping people of all ages to maximize their emotional health and well-being throughout the lifespan. TAADA is the division of TCA that seeks to improve the standards of the professional service to adults of all ages by:

  • Improving the skills and competence of TCA members as they work with adults across the lifespan
  • Expanding professional work opportunities in adult development and aging and promoting counselor’s involvement with adults in all life stages
  • Promoting the lifelong development and well-being of adults
  • Promoting standards for professional preparation for counselors of adults across the lifespan

Call for Reviewers for the Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research 

The Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research (JPC), the official journal of the Texas Counseling Association, is currently accepting applications for positions on the journal editorial review board team. JPC is an indexed, semi-annual scholarly publication, aiming at providing clinical, theoretical, and empirical guidance to counselors, educators, researchers, and other mental health professionals. Qualifications include a graduate degree and licensure in a counseling field, a record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals, and a commitment to providing prompt and comprehensive reviews of approximately 3-5 manuscripts annually. Becoming an editorial reviewer is a great way to: Impact and guide the profession, build your resume/CV, grow your name and brand in the counseling profession.

Individuals interested in applying are asked to include (a) a cover letter outlining their interest, relevant experience, and reasons for applying and (b) a current CV or resume.

TEA Launches “HB3 In 30” Web Video Series

TEA is launching a new video series, “HB3 in 30,” to help inform school districts and the public about how to implement the transformative measures in House Bill 3, passed during the 86th legislative session.

Each video will feature, in roughly 30 minutes, an overview and detailed explanation of a specific provision in House Bill 3, as well as information on how TEA is working to implement applicable changes to public education required by this new legislation.

Guidance to States and School Systems on Addressing Mental Health and Substance Use Issues in Schools

This Joint SAMHSA-CMS informational Bulletin provides guidance to states and school systems about addressing mental health and substance use issues in schools. It provides examples of approaches for services in schools and describes some Medicaid authorities that states may use to cover services.

The Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant Program provides competitive grants to support and demonstrate innovative partnerships to train school-based mental health services providers for employment in schools and local educational agencies (LEAs). The goal of this program is to expand the pipeline of high-quality, trained providers to address the shortages of mental health service professionals in schools served by high-need LEAs.
