Lydia Ethel Farmer Painter (G.E.X. pseud.) was an American author, poet, traveler, and the owner of the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Railroad. On 17 January 1861, she married John Vickers Painter (1835-1903), a banker, businessmen, and associate of John D. Rockefeller. Prior to the stock market crash, the Painter family was one of the wealthiest families in the USA. Their son, Kenyon Vickers Painter (1867-1940), was a financier, big game hunter, art collector, and philanthropist.

DEEPING, Warwick [George Davidson] (1877-1950)

Trained as a medical doctor at Cambridge University, Warwick Deeping served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War I. He abandoned medicine and became a full-time author. Seven of his novels were best-sellers, notably Sorrell and Son. During his career he published at least one or two novels annually as well as hundreds of short stories. His early work is dominated by historical romances. His later novels attempted to keep alive the spirit of the Edwardian age.

KREYMBORG, Alfred (1883-1966)

Alfred Kreymborg was an American poet, novelist, playwright, literary editor, and anthologist. The son of a cigar-store owner, he became a chess phenomenon by the age of ten. He began writing poetry in his late teens and soon became an active figure in the Greenwich Village literary circles. The first writer to be involved with Alfred Stieglitz's 291 gallery, he joined forces with the avant-garde photographer Man Ray in 1913 to create The Glebe, a Modernist journal. His first book of poetry, Mushrooms: A Book of Free Forms (1916), solidified his reputation as one of the first writers utilizing free verse.

William Wymark Jacobs was an English author of short stories and novels, best known for his farcical comedies and his horror story, "The Monkey's Paw".
Louis N. Parker was an English dramatist, composer and translator. His 1911 Broadway play, Disraeli, was made into silent films in 1916 and 1921 and a talking film in 1929; the actor George Arliss won the Academy Award for best actor in a leading role in the 1929 film adaptation.  Jacobs and Parker collaborated together on a number dramatic projects, including the 1907 stage adaptation by Parker of "The Monkey's Paw".

Frank Lee Farnell, born in New Haven, Conn., was the editor of Young Folks' Letter Bureau (Boston), Frank Leslie's Pleasant Hours for Boys and Girls (1890s), Frank Leslie's Popular Monthly (1895-), and The Authors' Journal (New York, 1895-6).
