JULY 2020
Dear friend,

It appears that you are stuck with me for a little while longer.

I recently received the good news that nobody attempted to qualify to run against me as your Sheriff.

Due to nobody qualifying to run against me this Fall, I have been officially re-elected as Sheriff of Polk County—the next election will be in 2024.

Going back to when I was a little boy growing up in Lakeland, it was my dream to serve as Sheriff of Polk County. Thanks to all of you, and the hard work of many dedicated people, I was able to achieve that dream, and have it continue.

It has not always been an easy job, but over the years, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by some of the best people in law enforcement, working for the people of one of the best counties in the United States.

It has been an honor to serve you as Sheriff, and I look forward to continue serving you.

Thank you.

Fishing with Judd was Great Fun!
The sixth-annual Fishin' with Judd was held on June 30th at the PCSO Sheriff's Operation Center in Winter Haven and we're not sure who had more fun---the kids, or the deputies? The event is sponsored by Polk Sheriff's Charities, Inc., Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and local businesses. Participating children are picked by deputies. They are boys and girls who come from a variety of communities -- they may otherwise never get to experience fishing. After a few hours of fishing, the children were provided a nice lunch and gifts.
June DUI arrests
Drinking alcohol while having fun, celebrating, or just relaxing is one thing, but getting behind the wheel of a car or boat after having "just a couple of drinks"...that's where the trouble begins.

You might make it home safe, you might get caught and arrested, you might cause a crash that hurts or kills yourself or someone else.

Below are all of the people arrested by the PCSO for DUI (or BUI) in the month of June. It's a lot. But realize this, these are only PCSO arrests...this does not include those arrested in Polk County by FHP or the city police departments. We can't say it enough: do not drive while impaired, whether it's alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription drugs, or even a lack of sleep.
Animal Control participating in exciting new event!
Polk County Animal Control is excited to participate in a MEGA adoption event with two other great agencies - the SPCA of Florida, and the Humane Society of Polk County!

Social Media Spotlight - Instagram
The Office of Communications uses  I nstagram  to share images of the PCSO Life. Most of the images shared involve community interaction, messages and acts of support, and amusing memes.

As agency members, it's a great way to see what's going on elsewhere in PCSO. For the public, our Instagram site is yet another way we share with them the great things that happen here everyday that they otherwise might not see.

If you have some interesting photos, please send them to PIOs@polksheriff.org so we can share them (and please include information about what is in the photo). Or just send us a direct message via social media.
