Introducing a new service for our Chesapeake Chapter sphere of influence - Student Resume Service . This is for our Student Division at A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD.  The students are graduating in May 2020 with Masters in Engineering.

Links are provided for each student so you can E-mail them and request a copy of their resume. Also, if you have colleagues that may be interested, please forward this E-mail to them.

The INCOSE 30th Anniversary Video is Released!

The official INCOSE 30th anniversary video was prepared for INCOSE's 30th International Symposium. Visit the Symposium website, incose.org/symp2020 for details. In producing this video, INCOSE set out to tell their rich story and to emphasize the significance of the systems engineer in addressing the earth’s grand challenges.

Did you miss last month?

Mike Pafford, past Chesapeake Chapter President, introduced and gave an update to an ongoing project by a volunteer cross-domain team (INCOSE, IEEE, FBI/InfraGard, and Medical Experts) to apply model-based analysis, engineering, and evaluation methods to develop a Resilient Hospital Reference Model (RHRM).

Do you have the Knack for Effective Trouble Shooting?

Systems engineers are potentially the best candidates for being or becoming good troubleshooters. The INCOSE Handbook identifies maintenance as a technical process. Within this framework fault identification or trouble shooting is included as a sub-activity. Trouble shooting is a form of problem solving that requires experience and often special skills like forensic engineering. George has some great stories about using Systems Engineering while trouble shooting.

Who said “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts”?

The phrase “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts” is well known and important to Systems Scientists and Systems Engineers alike. It’s like a short pithy definition of Emergence. And it is almost always automatically attributed to Aristotle. But what I want to know is this - Did he say it? Why did he say it? And in what context?
