The Golf Course has been in fantastic shape this year. Doug and his staff have received many compliments on the condition of the golf course from tee to green. The grass is extremely healthy. Our challenge this year is the opposite of what it was last year. Last year we were battling flood and high ground water conditions and this year we are battling drought like conditions. Our goal is to keep golf course conditions thriving this way throughout the season. But we need your help. Golfers, please remember to do your part with filling divots, repairing ball marks, raking bunkers and being careful with cart traffic on the golf course.
On June 26
, we opened hole number eight for play. The determining factor for opening the green was agronomic. We are at the point now where foot traffic from golfers will not impede future growth or harm the new turf grass. We are mowing the green with a dedicated mower at a slightly higher height of cut as we continue to enrich the overall turf grass health, so this green will play a little slower. The tee box has mostly full coverage and it will become thicker in the upcoming weeks. The approach and the rough surrounds have completely healed. I hope everyone enjoys playing this par three again as it is one of our Clubs most scenic and challenging holes.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation for our incredibly talented golf course superintendent, Doug Hausman, and his team for their efforts in recovering the flood damage this Spring. Mother Nature was not as cooperative as she could have been, but Doug and his team ultimately prevailed. If you see him, or any of the golf maintenance team, please give them a well-deserved a pat on the back.
The Golf Operation continues to work through a very busy schedule with tournaments, league play, and regular play. This month we are looking forward to our Club Championships, the Ladies Invitational and the Men’s Invitational at the end of the month. We have had a lot more regular play from our Members and guests this year. Please remember to check in with the golf shop before play. While you are in the shop, browse through the great selection of merchandise Casey and the professionals have displayed.
REMEMBER: The Annual Equity Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8
