July 2020
It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others. - Dalai Lama

It is strange times to be sure. With Covid bending our perception of time and the general uncertainty of so many things, life feels groundless right now. But we can do good for everyone by listening to our public health professionals, washing hands, wearing masks and keeping our distance from each other. We are lucky to be in a region that has seen a steady decline in cases, but we must remain vigilant as we move into this next phase. Please, please be mindful of the staff of all the businesses you visit - they are working very hard under difficult circumstances. Thank you for your courtesy.

Both stores are now open 10-6 daily. We are still doing curbside pickup, and in Saratoga Springs we have started a same-day delivery service in partnership with another great local business, 9 Miles East .

Our order online & pickup in store option has been popular for many people. Our inventory is updated at least once a day and new features are added regularly. For instance, we have recently added an Anti-Racist reading list for all ages. I just finished White Fragility , which I highly recommend.

You can now be visited by great authors in the comfort of your own home. No dress code. While we greatly miss hosting authors, our author events program has successfully migrated online. Daniel Silva and Jennifer Weiner are two of our upcoming events. For the full list, please visit here

Thank you for your support! Please stay safe & enjoy July.

Please join Northshire Bookstore in partnership with Harper to celebrate the launch of The Order with Daniel Silva!

Daniel Silva, #1 New York Times bestselling author of  The Order  in conversation with CNN Special Correspondent Jamie Gangel. For the first time ever, book tour is happening at Daniel’s house and you are invited via Crowdcast to join him live! The event will include a peek behind the scenes at where Daniel works — where he keeps all those yellow legal pads and just how he sharpens his secret stash of pencils. Best of all, Daniel will be ready and waiting to answer your questions about  The Order . And you never know, Gabriel and Chiara may just make a surprise visit in his kitchen.
Jennifer Weiner will discuss her new book, Big Summer with Northshire Events Manager Rachel Person.

A deliciously funny, remarkably poignant, and simply unputdownable novel about the power of friendship, the lure of frenemies, and the importance of making peace with yourself through all life’s ups and down. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of  Good in Bed  and  Best Friends Forever Big Summer  is the perfect escape with one of the most lovable heroines to come to the page in years.
We are delighted to be joined by two of our favorite Mystery writers--Paul Doiron and Sarah Stewart Taylor with their latest titles! In  One Last Lie , the new thriller from bestselling Edgar Award finalist Paul Doiron, the disappearance of Mike Bowditch’s beloved mentor reveals an ominous connection to a 15-year-old cold case. Sarah Stewart Taylor debuts a new series for fans of Tana French and Kate Atkinson, set in Dublin and New York, when homicide detective Maggie D'arcy finally tackles the case that changed the course of her life in The Mountains Wild .
Three fantastic romance authors will share their latest work. Sonali Dev’s Recipe for Persuasion is the second in her current Jane Austen-inspired series. Kwana Jackson’s Real Men Knit is a charming feel-good romance set amidst the rescue of a Harlem knitting shop. Sarah MacLean’s Daring and the Duke is the third and final novel in her wildly popular Bareknuckle Bastards series.
June Featured Release

The iconic author of the bestselling phenomenon  Crazy Rich Asians  returns with the glittering tale of a young woman who finds herself torn between two men: the WASPY fiancé of her family's dreams and George Zao, the man she is desperately trying to avoid falling in love with.

On her very first morning on the jewel-like island of Capri, Lucie Churchill sets eyes on George Zao and she instantly can't stand him. She can't stand it when he gallantly offers to trade hotel rooms with her so that she can have a view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, she can't stand that he knows more about Casa Malaparte than she does, and she really can't stand it when he kisses her in the darkness of the ancient ruins of a Roman villa and they are caught by her snobbish, disapproving cousin Charlotte. "Your mother is Chinese so it's no surprise you'd be attracted to someone like him," Charlotte teases. The daughter of an American-born Chinese mother and a blue-blooded New York father, Lucie has always sublimated the Asian side of herself in favor of the white side, and she adamantly denies having feelings for George. But several years later, when George unexpectedly appears in East Hampton, where Lucie is weekending with her new fiancé, Lucie finds herself drawn to George again. Soon, Lucie is spinning a web of deceit that involves her family, her fiancé, the co-op board of her Fifth Avenue apartment building, and ultimately herself as she tries mightily to deny George entry into her world--and her heart. Moving between summer playgrounds of privilege, peppered with decadent food and extravagant fashion,  Sex and Vanity  is a truly modern love story, a daring homage to  A Room with a View,  and a brilliantly funny comedy of manners set between two cultures.

Pre-order Highlight

Animals don't exist in order to teach us things, but that is what they have always done, and most of what they teach us is what we think we know about ourselves.

In  Vesper Flights Helen Macdonald brings together a collection of her best loved essays, along with new pieces on topics ranging from nostalgia for a vanishing countryside to the tribulations of farming ostriches to her own private vespers while trying to fall asleep.

Meditating on notions of captivity and freedom, immigration and flight, Helen invites us into her most intimate experiences: observing the massive migration of songbirds from the top of the Empire State Building, watching tens of thousands of cranes in Hungary, seeking the last golden orioles in Suffolk's poplar forests. She writes with heart-tugging clarity about wild boar, swifts, mushroom hunting, migraines, the strangeness of birds' nests, and the unexpected guidance and comfort we find when watching wildlife.

By one of this century's most important and insightful nature writers,  Vesper Flights  is a captivating and foundational book about observation, fascination, time, memory, love and loss and how we make sense of the world around us.
