Generally useful information.
In the next few days . . .
The Office of Children & Youth Faith Formation has put together a useful packet of information to assist you in your RE/YM programming for the Fall 2020. It will include guidelines to social distancing, ideas for adapting your current model to what will be necessary to accommodate safe, prudent gatherings.

Please look over the documents, then if at all possible, plan to join us for an Office Hour on July 23 to share your ideas, concerns and plans.

This packet of information will come to you at the same address as this Update , also via Constant Contact.

Summertime Office Hour on July 23rd
That's a Thursday (1pm)

If you're available, please join us for this Summer Office Hour. During it, we'll unpack the information packet mentioned above, which will include:
  • Fall 2020 Social Distancing Guidelines for RE/YM
  • Ideas for Adapting your Fall Program
  • Updated Resource Page and how you can contribute to it

We'll also discuss changes to the Curia and what that means to the support it's able to provide. We want to hear about your challenges and successes, too! And of course, we'll pray . . . bring your special intentions. Zoom meeting link:

Summer Adjustments to Staff &
Office Hours
In the interest of good stewardship during these uncertain times, the Office of Families & Schools will be reduced in staff over the summer and office hours are being further reduced (our office is no longer open on Friday’s, and our hours on M-Th will be 8am--4pm).  That means that e-mails and phone calls may not be answered as quickly as we’d like, and that our social media accounts may not be as current/responsive as they have been.
Please bear with us as we adjust, and know that our mission is still to serve you in your ministry of fostering households and communities of discipleship as friends and followers of Jesus. Our Lady of Good Help, pray for us.
An Invitation: Pray & Plan Event
Tuesday, July 28, 10:30am
Anne Stemper, St. Clare Parish, is planning an informal gathering at the Greenleaf Campus (2218 Day St., Greenleaf) to pray, brainstorm, share and plan for your parish catechetical/youth programs. Please bring any creative ideas to share; a computer if you wish to work; any of your leader guides for planning; tips you have for using and incorporating technology, and your own favorite work-day beverage.

A light lunch will be served. Please RSVP to Anne Stemper by July 22 for the lunch count.
Christ Our Life Texts Available
Jeannine Hadzima from St. Bernard Parish in Green Bay has a set of Grades 1-5 "Christ Our Life" (2009 edition) by Loyola Press that her parish no longer needs and has graciously offered them to any other parish who could use them.

There are over 2 dozen student workbooks and 3-5 catechists' guides for each grade (1-5). Please contact Jeannine to claim and arrange pick-up from St. Bernard Parish.
Earn-a-Patch Activities for Families
With the cancellation of many Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) and the closure of Camp Tekakwitha this summer of 2020, the Office of Families & Schools of Discipleship wishes to direct families to some summer activities through which children in grades 1-12 can grow in their faith and earn patches.

All children, youth and adults – Scouts or non-Scouts, Catholic or non-Catholic, male or female – are welcome to participate in these activities. These activities may also be used by groups, and/or families.
The activities and patches are offered through the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS) and the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM). Patches may be ordered directly from those organizations, and the average cost per patch will be $3-$4 plus postage.
Patches and activities are based on the lives of the Saints and our Catholic faith tradition and heritage. Activities required to earn patches are appropriate to the age/grade of each child/youth.
NCCL to Address the New Directory for Catechesis
Released in Italian on June 25, the new Directory for Catechesis will be available in American English at a later date. It provides catechists, religious educators and the lay-faithful with a reference guide for the teaching and transmission of faith in our modern world. The 12 chapters will address important topics, such as:
  • the relationship between catechesis and evangelization,
  • the vocation and formation of the catechist
  • the process and transmission of the faith
  • the function of catechesis in a variety of cultural and institutional settings

The NCCL will be launching a 4-month event along with a meaningful resource to help unpack the implications of this new directory. Stay tuned for details.

Please don't forget, that as a catechetical leader in a parish of the Diocese of Green Bay, you are automatically included in our Diocesan membership to the NCCL. If you've lost the instructions on how to sign-in to NCCL (sent in an e-mail on 2-20-20), please e-mail cfountain@gbdioc.org .
