Campaign Spotlight: Northwest Federal Credit Union
In December 2019, the Children's Science Center celebrated a $10 million gift from Northwest Federal Credit Union as the lead building naming sponsor of Northern Virginia’s future science center. This transformative gift significantly bolstered the vision to create a world-class science center in Northern Virginia and was pivotal to initiating private fundraising.

Northwest Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Herndon, was chartered in 1947 and today has over 270,000 members and 550+ employees. Northwest Federal strives to provide great service and is dedicated to transforming the lives of its members and the communities through the “Transforming Lives Through Acts of We” community service initiative.

We are thankful for Northwest Federal's commitment to the community and leadership in prioritizing STEM learning in the region and look forward to a partnership that embodies its Why Statement: “Together, we serve and inspire to transform lives.”

Thank you, Northwest Federal Credit Union, for being our a Pivotal Partner
in the vision to create a world-class science center in Northern Virginia!
Commitment to Sustainability
Northern Virginia’s science center will play a role in creating a more sustainable future for our region. The final building design will result in a high-performance museum facility built with integrated and sustainable features and a commitment to attaining a minimum of LEED Silver Certification. This rating requires new constructions to incorporate a set number of sustainable features related to location, water and energy efficiency, resource acquisition, indoor environmental quality, and more. Award-winning architecture firm HGA is incorporating additional sustainability features, notably designing the position and orientation of the new science center to make lighting and heating use as efficient as possible. The building will serve as an innovative resource to inspire visitors to actively pursue a more sustainable future.
