A MESSAGE FROM YWCA'S CEO, TARA PETERSON AND BOARD PRESIDENT, JESSICA FIRST

It is with gratitude and excitement that YWCA Glendale and Pasadena enters this new fiscal year with a record of directly serving over 5,000 individuals a year - a milestone number for our 95-year-old organization. We are proud to operate Glendale and Pasadena offices and a 16-bed emergency domestic violence shelter, with 41 exceptional staff members and a $3M budget. After a year of uncertainty and widening inequities in our community, we remained whole and committed as ever to being a safe refuge and a space for healing for survivors, an inspirational place for learning and growth for girls, and a center for policy and community change to advance our bold mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. This month, we are delighted to introduce our new Director of Racial and Gender Equity - a strategic and expanded investment in our growing work, share information on our community vaccination event and our next 40-hour Domestic Violence Counselor Advocate training, and announce new event details for the 19th Annual Women for Racial Justice Breakfast. We could not have weathered the many storms of the past year and expanded our programmatic and geographic reach without the support of our beloved community. We thank you for showing up in so many ways to demonstrate your support and can’t wait to see what we are able to accomplish together this year. As always, we welcome and value your feedback and suggestions on what is working and how we can improve to best meet the needs of the community. "In a year of racial reckoning and calls for transformative systems change, it is with great excitement that we bring on Fabiola Montiel, a seasoned policy and communications leader to oversee the Coalition for an Anti-Racist Glendale's policy work and to build out YWCA's educational offerings in racial and gender equity and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion campaigns, trainings and consultations. We are grateful to the Weingart Foundation whose support allowed us to create this inaugural position to build upon the momentum of the historic wins we achieved this last year in advancing local racial justice initiatives," Tara Peterson, Chief Executive Officer, YWCA Glendale and Pasadena.
