Nova Southeastern University Names Three New College Deans and a Senior Vice President / Associate Provost

NSU is pleased to announce the appointment of three new college deans: Holly Baumgartner, Ph.D. (Halmos College of Arts and Sciences and the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Research Center), Andrea Nevins, Ph.D. (Farquhar Honors College), Linda S. Rouse, (College of Optometry) and a Senior Vice President/ Associate Provost, Ken Dawson-Scully, Ph.D.

NSU Faculty Members Named Top Black Educators of 2021

NSU’s Charlene Désir, Ed.D. and Olympia Duhart, J.D. were recently named among Legacy South Florida magazine’s Top Black Educators of 2021. Désir is a full-time professor at NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice. Duhart, an alumna of NSU’s Shepard Broad College of Law, serves at the director of legal research and writing and professor of law.

NSU Leads The Caribbean Diaspora Healthy Nutrition Outreach Project

Featured in the Miami Herald, Dr. Farzanna Haffizulla, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM), leads the Caribbean Diaspora Healthy Nutrition Outreach Project, which aims to educate Caribbean-American communities in South Florida and beyond about healthy eating to prevent diseases like heart conditions, high blood pressure, and cancer. 

Racing Champion and Family Establish Endowment Fund for Nursing Students Focused on Oncology

Indy 500 champion and Fort Lauderdale native Ryan Hunter-Reay and his wife Beccy recently established an endowed scholarship to support students at NSU’s Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing with an interest in oncology. The gift was made through NSU Fellow Racing for Cancer, an organization created by the Hunter-Reay family in memory of his mother, Lydia.

Donor Connection: Vital Vaccinators
 
Alumni and students from NSU’s College of Pharmacy have played a pivotal role in the release of the COVID-19 vaccinations in South Florida. Dorinda Segovia, Pharm.D., M.B.A. (‘92), vice president of pharmacy services at Memorial Healthcare System (MHS,) was one of the first pharmacists to receive the vaccine in South Florida. Likewise, Madeline Camejo, M.S., Pharm.D. (’97) has been featured on the news several times in regards to the arrival and storage of the vaccine in south Florida.

NSU Grad Enjoys 15 Years at the Government Accountability Office

July 2021 will mark Gerard Aflague’s 15-year work anniversary at the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Aflague, an alumnus of the NSU's College of Computing and Engineering, serves as a senior information technology analyst, where he primarily audits federal information technology (IT) systems and programs that generally benefit the American people.

The NSU Cares Fund was created to provide relief after traumatic disaster to help students, employees, and alumni who are most in need of assistance. This fund helps build a foundation for those who will be in need when tragedy strikes such as the Surfside condo collapse and impact from Hurricane Elsa.

Largest-Ever Study Highlights The Natural History and Conservation Importance Of Chinese Mountain Cat

In the largest-ever study undertaken of Chinese cats, genetic detectives highlight the evolutionary uniqueness of the elusive Chinese mountain cat. The study was led by the Laboratory of Genomic Diversity at Peking University in Beijing and supported by an international team including lead genetic researchers at Nova Southeastern University and in Malaysia.
