July 2021
Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July!
The Village Office will be closed on Monday, July 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The office will reopen on Tuesday, July 6 at 8:30 a.m. There are no changes to garbage collection and John's Disposal will pick up garbage as scheduled on Monday, July 5.

Fireworks Reminders
Please note that fireworks that propel into the air or explode are prohibited in the Village. Fireworks and related toy items that stay on the ground are allowed, but loud noises (especially at night) may be considered a nuisance under Village ordinances.

Illegal use of fireworks is a danger to you and your neighbors. Fireworks can cause significant injury when not handled properly. Additionally, according to the National Safety Council, fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires each year, including 1,300 structure fires and 300 vehicle fires. Noise from fireworks is especially difficult for some combat veterans and pets. For veterans with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) the loud and unexpected noise from fireworks can be a source of stress and anxiety. Please be considerate of your neighbors.

Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July Weekend.
Lighthouse Grounds Pathway Project
The new pathway at the Wind Point Lighthouse grounds has been completed and is open for use. Restoration work including backfilling, grading and grass seeding was completed last week. Now that the pathway has been completed the Lighthouse grounds project moves on to other areas including:

  • Entrance sign: The installation of the new sign is tentatively scheduled for mid to late July. You can view a rendering of the new sign here.

  • Benches: Five new benches are scheduled for delivery and installation in early August. The benches will be located at points along the pathway as well as the circle gathering node.

  • Historical Signs: New interpretative historical signs are scheduled to be installed on the east side of the grounds later this summer. The renderings of the signs can be viewed here.

  • Tree and Flower Plantings: Village staff is anticipating that planting of new trees and flowers will occur in late summer or early fall. Wind Point Public Works staff is working with the Wind Point Gardening Club to order flowers for the new planting beds that will be installed in the circle gathering node. Public Works staff is working on ordering new trees that will be planted around the pathway, per the site plan which can be viewed here.
Deepwood Drive Project Update
At their regular meeting on July 1, the Village Board approved the sale of the western 30% of the Village owned property at 4403 Main Street to KEW Investments (Korndoerfer Homes). The remaining eastern 70% of the property will remain in Village ownership.

KEW Investments will be developing the western portion of the lot into four single family homes, which are listed on the site plans as Lots 1 through 4. As part of the approval process for the development, the Village Board has entered into a developer's agreement with KEW Investments which will govern the installation of water and sewer pipes as well as the overall master grading plan for the property. Additionally, the Board approved protective covenants and restrictions for the development, which will handle the requirements for construction and use on the property.

Next Steps:
KEW Investments will begin the site prep and utility infrastructure construction in the next few weeks. This will include the clearing of trees and brush for the home sites and driveways. Installation work for a new sanitary sewer line and water laterals for the new homes will also be done. All sanitary sewer work will be done on the edge of Deepwood Drive, however in order to install the new water laterals, work will need to be done in the roadway of Deepwood Drive and Main Street at certain points in time. Access may be temporarily blocked during the work.

At this time the Village has not made a determination on the future of the remaining eastern portion of the property. Only work to remove dead trees along the edge of Deepwood Drive in the eastern section of the property is planned at this time.

To view more information about the project please visit the Village's Deepwood Development project page.
