COMMUNITY SOLAR GARDEN
To support Eden Prairie’s Climate Action Plan goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the City of Eden Prairie is partnering with Cooperative Energy Futures (CEF) to build a roof-top solar garden at the Community Center. Eden Prairie residents who pay electric bills to Xcel Energy, including renters and association members, can register for a solar energy subscription on a first-come, first-served basis. Joining a community solar garden does not require any physical changes to your home or an upfront investment beyond a one-time $25 membership share in the co-op. There is no minimum or maximum income requirement, or a credit check. Once the project begins producing energy, participating residents will receive monthly credits on their electric bills for their portion of the solar energy produced by the project, and pay the co-op for that energy at a lower rate, creating a net monthly savings. Register for the Community Solar Garden waiting list to receive direct notifications when subscriptions are available. The City of Eden Prairie also has an upcoming workshop for residents to learn more which will be held in the Heritage Rooms at the City Center (8080 Mitchell Road) on August 4th from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

LOCAL NONPROFITS CAN APPLY FOR 2021 BREWFEST CHOICE GRANT
Nonprofits that serve Eden Prairie and have an innovative project to make EP better are invited to apply for a 2021 Brewfest Choice Grant from the Eden Prairie Community Foundation. In this innovative grants program, Prairie Brewfest attendees vote on the Brewfest Choice Grants and decide which community needs should get $400, $600, $1,000, or $2,000 in grant funding. "People who support the Foundation fill important needs in Eden Prairie," explained Executive Director Mark Weber, "and this is an extension of that. This 'people's choice' type of granting allows our supporters to learn about Eden Prairie needs and vote for whatever resonates with them as compelling."
The 2020 Brewfest was cancelled due to Covid-19, but the craft-beer sampling festival returns 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 to Purgatory Creek in Eden Prairie. Nonprofits applying for a 2021 Brewfest Choice Grant must have a project that benefits Eden Prairie and must submit an application on or before August 2nd. The project should be capable of being implemented for $2000 or less. Four finalists will be chosen by the Foundation's Grants Committee and those four will be presented to Brewfest attendees on September 11th. The finalist application with the most votes will get $2,000 and the runners-up will be awarded $1,000, $600, and $400 respectively, depending on votes. A short application for Brewfest Choice Grants has been developed to help reduce the application workload for nonprofits. If your organization wishes to apply, please contact Foundation Executive Director Mark Weber at mweber@epcommunityfoundation.org or 952-949-8499 before applyting to make sure your organization is eligible.

RENT HELP MN AND THE ZERO BALANCE PROJECT
The state of MN recently announced a plan to end the eviction moratorium. With the expiration of the moratorium, renters are protected from eviction if they have applied for RentHelpMN. RentHelpMN is a statewide program where the renter leads the application project.
The Zero Balance Project is coordinating with RentHelpMN to prevent duplicate payments of emergency rental assistance. If residents have applied for RentHelpMN, then there is no need to apply for The Zero Balance Project. However, The Zero Balance Project allows property owners and managers to take the lead and apply if their tenets owe back rent (dating back to March 13, 2020) and have not already applied for RentHelpMN. The Zero Balance Project serves Dakota, Hennepin, and Ramsey counties.
