July 2021 GVCO Newsletter
As you are aware, GVCO’s focus is on families here in our local community. As we move into the month of August, GVCO is winding down the Summer and preparing for the Fall; a new school year and a host of initiatives and programs. In this newsletter, we'll outline some of the many wonderful things coming in the months ahead.
As a community organization, we are always resolute and fixated on the future. We've a short term plan for hosting programs and events as well as a long term plan dedicated to developing and helping more families here in the district. We have been pretty good about what we've been doing for the past 20 years, but GVCO is always about how do we grow? How do we help more families, young and old?
Through the years, it has become very apparent that there is a lack of gathering space, meeting space and playing space in the area. A clean, safe, family friendly space that takes 15 minutes or less to get to. The Community needs a place for a whole host of activities coordinated by friends and neighbors from the district. GVCO has just embarked on bringing this type of community asset to Great Valley. It’s been a long time coming, a ton of people have helped get us to where we are today yet we still have a ways to go…but “We Are On Our Way”.
Keep an eye on all our messaging via social media, newsletters and website for updates. I highly encourage you to view our vision for the new GVCO Community Center and let us know what else you think we ought to offer in the future.

It only takes one person to mobilize a community and inspire change. Even if you don't feel like you have it in you, it's in you. You have to believe in yourself. People will see your vision and passion and follow you.

A Record Number of Volunteers Signing Up for Service to our Community!
For years our GVCO Caring Hands foundation has focused on working with local partners to better assist the many needs in the region. This coming fall we are pleased to announce that we've added two new collaborative efforts.
Again this October, we will be hosting our 3rd annual donation drive to benefit Cradles2Crayons. Start putting the gently used clothing and shoes the kids have grown out of in a bag, as October is right around the corner!
We would also like to welcome this year’s Caring Hands student leadership co-presidents Mia and Lauren. These two join a long list of the many middle school and high school volunteers who signed up to help out this year.

As we wind up our Summer programming, Fall is not far off with a number of great outdoor GVCO programs.
Our GV Crew Fall program is currently registering 8th-12th grade girls and boys to get out on the water and learn to row. The program had a record number of rowers this past spring and have begun to show signs of being one of the top scholastic crew programs in the region.

GVCO Cheer has reorganized and will be developing a year round program involving both competitive and sideline cheer. Athletes from kindergarten through middle school will cheer at our GVCO youth football and basketball games, while also having the opportunity to compete at a number of competitions throughout the year.

GVBL is a community league giving the kids an opportunity to have fun and compete at the game of basketball. We ask volunteer moms, dads and former GVBL players from the community to ref the games.
The opportunity to ref gives the students a chance to "see" the game from a different perspective and teaches responsibility. In addition, we feel it's a good opportunity to give back to the league that they've enjoyed for many years.

Our GVFL tackle football teams have been formed and practices begin August 9th. Look for the first game in early September at the GVHS stadium.

Announcing a new GVCO Partnership
For many years, GVCO has enjoyed a tremendous relationship with Temple University's School of Sports Tourism and Hospitality Management. Recently GVCO has reached out to Immaculata's Office of Career and Professional Development to initiate a similar relationship. As a local community partner, Immaculata is a natural fit for GVCO as we continue to develop further programming here in the Great Valley Community. Immaculata has strength in areas like adult programs and Education - areas that GVCO plans to focus on with the onset of the new facility. As we move into the new school year, look for GVCO and Immaculata working together for the betterment of our local community.

Just prior to the pandemic, Surrey Sevices for older adults had started local programming at the United Church of Christ in Malvern. Activities and events were well attended until the Covid shutdown.
In the coming months, GVCO and the new leadership at Surrey will reconnect, restart and develop new programs for the older adult community in the district.

GVCO Sponsorship Spotlight

Haly Oil, now Haly Home Comfort, started in 1985 with one truck and one customer. Delivering home heating oil was the initial focus, but it wasn’t long before a service department was added.
Today, as the 35th anniversary approaches, the mission-driven Haly Companies strive to provide home comfort and energy services around the clock in the most customer-friendly way possible. And, Walter “Bud” Haly, owner and co-founder, continues to put customers and the community first, just as he did when he began delivering oil in 1985.
Bud and the entire Haly family have given GVCO an incredible amount of time, energy, resources and service throughout its 20+ years in existence. “We’re a family-owned business,” Bud says. “We live where you live, we raise our kids here, and we strive to have a positive impact on the environment. Our community is your community, and your friends are our friends.” And this epitomizes GVCO’s mission and goals. GVCO is proud to partner with our local friend and business owner.
