The Landings Art Association
Announces its
July 2021 Art Exhibit
featuring Artist of the Month
Leslie Fitzgerald
LAA/Sound View Palmetto Gallery
July 7 – August 3
The Landings Art Association invites you to the LAA/Sound View Gallery at the Palmetto Club from July 7 through August 3 to see new works by LAA Artist of the Month, Leslie Fitzgerald.
After a 30-year career in book publishing, Leslie Fitzgerald retired and immediately returned to her first passion, which was painting. When she and her husband Steve moved to Savannah from the Northeast in 2000, the natural beauty of the southern landscape, particularly the Intracoastal Waterway, marshes and other low country scenes became her primary inspiration. Best known for her landscapes, Leslie also enjoys capturing local scenes and the architectural beauty of the historic district.
For Leslie, art had always been a first love. As far back as she could remember, she dabbled in watercolor, oil painting, pastels, printmaking and other creative pursuits. When she graduated with a BA in art – as Leslie puts it, “Way too much art history and way too little studio work.” – she moved to New York City to pursue a career in book publishing. Starting with Van Nostrand Reinhold, at the time, a major publisher of nonfiction books in the areas of art instruction, graphic design, architecture, fabric design and other creative endeavors, Leslie ended her career as a marketing director with McGraw-Hill. Throughout her publishing career, Leslie was fortunate to work with authors, artists, crafts people, photographers, illustrators, book designers as well as typographers and printers. “It was a time of personal creative discovery and learning, if not great personal art production.”
Now an accomplished artist herself, working mostly with oils, Leslie describes her passion this way: “I paint because I’m inspired… by the sights and sounds of my surroundings, but also simply by the discovery of it all. In my landscapes I try to capture the textures and mood, color and light that give life to the subject. Winston S. Churchill said it well, “Happy are the painters, for they shall not be lonely. Light and color, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end, or almost to the end of the day.”
In this particular show, Leslie has focused on small works, mostly 5” x 7” landscapes depicting idyllic low country scenes created from photographs she has taken for reference and inspiration over the years.
In addition to painting, Leslie works with her husband Steve in their business, VR Business Sales, LLC, where they help business sellers, when they are ready, sell their businesses.
A gallery of Leslie’s work can be found at www.LFitzgeraldArt.com. The artist may be contacted directly at lesliefitzgerald@bellsouth.net.
The LAA Artist of the Month opening receptions are still on hold, however, our exhibits at the Palmetto Club Gallery continue to showcase the work of our very talented artists. Please don’t miss this very special exhibit.
