A Message from our Senior Pastor, Dr. Rodney Navey
We get to do a lot of special things during the summer (including VBS, children’s camp, student week, GAP mission trip, not to mention meet weekly for worship), but here are a few other things the staff is working on:

  • Church revitalization. An opportunity from a sister church in our association, Reedy Fork Baptist Church, has arisen. We’ve been asked to come alongside them and present a proposal to bring their people and facilities under the leadership of Lawndale. Our responsibility would be to shepherd their people and plan a relaunch of the church. They vote on our plan July 11. If accepted, we would bring the plan to Lawndale for approval July 25 at our quarterly business meeting. Please pray for wisdom as we consider this request. Our plan would be a 3-5 year process of replanting an autonomous church to reach their community with the gospel.

  • Fall ministry. Plans are being made to present what Lawndale will look like in September by way of Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday nights as well as the church culture as a whole. We’ve been praying through children’s, students’, and adult groups as well as intergenerational meetings. Don’t be surprised if you see a few changes to how our family looks. With God’s help, we will be a biblical and intergenerational church.

  • Membership calls. The staff is committed to contacting all church members during July and August. We take seriously our job to shepherd the flock. We want to know how you are doing, pray with you, and hear from you.

  • Music Ministry. I’m thankful for the men and women who have stepped up to lead us in our time of transition. Eddie Clark has been a huge blessing as an interim. Annaliese Paris, Maureen Burns, Paul Marth, and Jenny Newkirk have also provided much needed support. I’m thankful to have our choir singing again. You as a congregation have been patient as we’ve worked on experiencing worship intergenerationally. We continue to pray and listen to your input. Keep praying God sends us the man to lead us long-term, but in the meantime, pray for these leaders as they give of themselves to sacrificially serve.

I’m blessed to serve with a great staff and with a great congregation. But even more, I’m blessed to serve a great God with you. Join me in praying for God to do what only He can do over the summer and in the fall, “For nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).

NEXT GENERATIONS
CHILDREN AND PRESCHOOL
Children's Ministry Meeting - Saturday, July 10 at 1:30pm in the Chapel. We encourage all Children and Preschool volunteers to attend, as well as all interested parents. What do Lawndale's new staff changes mean for children's ministry? How will our fall schedule look? Where do we need volunteers? What questions and input do you have?

Vacation Bible School Report—Wow! It is wonderful to be back after an off year in Vacation Bible School. The children are just delightful and seem so excited to be present. Many students from other churches and those without a church are attending. As I write this, our enrollment is 330 children plus 136 teachers and leaders. Our teachers and leaders are excited to step forward, prepare and serve. Our overall theme is “Building a Strong Foundation on the Love of Jesus.” So many foundations in today’s world seem to be shifting. The best foundation for life is a solid, eternal one in Christ Jesus. A very special “thank you for serving God in this important way” goes to everyone serving at VBS this year!

VBS students will give an offering which will go towards mission projects. We will provide new adult work gloves for various ministry projects. Grades 1-6 children will provide school supplies and new adult men’s & women’s t-shirts for the upcoming GAP Kentucky mission trip.

Camp Caraway Scholarships—July 12-16 we are excited to be taking a tremendous group of 29 boys and 14 girls, plus chaperones, to Camp Caraway. Expenses are $340 per camper. Scholarship money, in any amount, is appreciated (checks made to LBC, memo: “Children’s Camp Scholarship”).

Women's Ministry
What a wonderful time to get connected or reconnected in ministry at Lawndale! Ladies, I would greatly encourage you to prayerfully consider how God has gifted you for ministry and seek out your role in the body of Christ at Lawndale. I'm so grateful for how many of you continued to serve in various ways during the COVID season or have recently taken up your positions of service to the church and our community. We are only able to be the healthy body of Christ (I Cor 12:12) God has called us to be when we are active in our individual efforts for His glory (Eph 4:12). There will be a discipleship training for women who would like to know more about the discipleship culture Rodney referred to in his Father's Day sermon. The training will take place here at Lawndale on July 23 and 24. Please register on our website or call the church office (336) 288-3824.

Healing Hearts of Lawndale Ministry—The LBC Women's Ministry announces the new Healing Hearts of Lawndale Ministry, which will serve and connect women who have experienced the loss of a spouse.  All widows are invited for a light brunch and a time of fellowship and support the 2nd Saturday of each month. The first meeting will be Saturday, July 10, 10:00-11:30am in the Fellowship Hall. Please call the church office at 336-288-3824 to register and for more information.

If you have ever been interested in learning an instrument now is a perfect time to sign up. We are taking any age students with varying levels of ability. For more information you may email Catherine Wood at Academy@lawndalebaptist.org

Extended Teaching—The Extended Teaching ministry to preschoolers (Babies-Kindergarten) takes place every Sunday during the 10:30am worship hour. The 9:00am (first hour) is already staffed by faithful, permanent teachers who serve every Sunday. In ET, we are “extending” the Bible teaching from the first hour into the second hour. Many children are only present during the 10:30am hour and this may be their only Bible learning time on Sunday. Please contact Abby Miller if you are interested in volunteering at acmiller@lawndalebaptist.org. It is Lawndale’s policy to conduct background checks on anyone who serves with children in any capacity.
