The 19th Annual McDonald's -
Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing took place on June 24 at Valley View Golf Course. A total of 116 golfers hit the links at noon with a shotgun start.
Corporate Sponsor for the event was Lewis Family McDonald's of Galion. McDonald’s of Galion has been the Corporate sponsor since the inception of this event. The Lewis Family purchased McDonald's of Galion early this year and has been generous and helped to continue this tradition.
Co-Sponsors for the event were Axe Social Lounge, AA American Bail Bonds, Avita, Bowlin Real Estate, Crossroads/ Cooper’s Mill, Keep It Classy Car Wash, Longstreth Memorials, Mill Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation, and Ohio Health.
This annual event generates operating income for the Chamber to continue its Economic Development and Business Advocacy efforts on behalf of the business community and serves as a fund raiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Various contests such as proximity, ball drop, double your money, putting, and 50/50 tickets on the course generated $2772 for Ronald McDonald House Charities and since beginning this partnership in 2003, a total of $39,926 has been raised for the charity.
The awards ceremony was held at the Hub at Village Square in Crestline and catered by Avita.
The team from Ahead in the Clouds was this year's first place team with a 57. Team members were Matt Dallas, George Dallas, Derek Burns, and Matt Arnold. It looks like they will be the team to beat next year!
Valley View finished in close second place with a 58. Team members included Zach Fout, Spencer Keller, Mike Chester, and Mike Stuckman.
There were new prize winning categories added last year. “Dead Last”, sponsored by Longstreth Memorials, was won by Avita with an 88. This was a condolence prize for “winning” last place. “Bailed Out of Last” (the team that was second to last place) was sponsored by AA American Bail Bonds and won by Elliot Machine Team #2 with a 78. The “Average Joe” award went to the team that placed right in the middle and was sponsored by Three Bean Coffee House. This award was won by Ohio Health with a 68.
We again extend our thanks and appreciation to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and those who donated goodie bag items and prizes. This event would not be possible without those who invest their time and resources to making this event a huge success.
Mark your calendars now for next year’s outing that will be held on June 23rd at Valley View Golf Course.

Galion City Schools are getting set for the next Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio Mobile Drive-Thru Food Pantry and are in need of community volunteers to assist with several different tasks during the event on Tuesday, July 20.

2021 Health and Wellness Fair

Iron Vault Distillery- The Iron Vault Distillery had a grand reopening on June 12th. They have remodeled and also have a new still. With the old equipment they could make 50-gallon mashes. The new equipment allows them to make 400-gallon mashes. Congratulations on the reopening!

The Community Foundation for Crawford County Awards Come Home Scholarship
Once again, The Community Foundation for Crawford County has presented a Come Home Scholarship. These unique awards are used toward college debt. In return, the recipients must move back to Crawford County to live and work. The 5th such award to be granted by the Foundation, the most recent recipient was Tad Fannin.
Tad, the son of Don and Twyla Fannin, is a 2010 graduate of Bucyrus High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS in 2018, then went on to earn a digital marketing certificate from Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS in 2020.
What inspired you to move back home?
“With the business and employment opportunities for my wife and me and with family close by, we think the area has much to offer as we hopefully start a family soon. Bringing on The Pickwick Place as a client has been an important piece as I start a digital marketing agency. Now, being close by will be helpful for managing that relationship. Additionally, my wife is an owner, along with her sister, of The Ohio Flower Girls in Crawford County. That business has been growing, and we think it has much more potential. Although we have been able to help from a distance with marketing and administrative tasks, we have gotten more involved since moving to the area. She has also begun working at The Pickwick Place, which is a great fit for her.”
How do you plan to give back to your community now that you have returned?
“As we’re planning a lot of life changes with a move, family life, and launching fairly new businesses, it remains to be seen to what extent and how we might get involved in the local community. And having been out of the area for some time, we would benefit from learning more about the current needs and efforts in the area. That being said, participating in local church, supporting local business, and charitable involvement have been important for both my wife and me. When she lived in the area, her involvement in the community included volunteering at the hospital, Junior Fair Board membership, and church preschool volunteering. I have been a church musician and youth group volunteer, assistant high school football coach, and started a fundraising chapter for an organization now called Growing Hope Globally, which had local involvement and of which I am now a board member. Moving forward, I am interested in contributing with marketing to benefit both local business and causes. Additionally, between my and my wife’s businesses, we hope to get involved in the local business community.
