July 2021 Newsletter
Dear LCAC Familia,

The summer is here and I could not be more grateful. I write our July update with a sense of accomplishment, gratitude and pride.

I am just returning from trips to Cancun, Oaxaca and Chicago. After losing my mom in April of this year, my world turned pretty gloomy. Suddenly, after spending time with loved ones and traveling, there are sparks of color in my life again! If you're interested in learning more about my trip to Oaxaca, I wrote this Blog Post for you.

I want to start off by sharing that Negráfrica has completed their traveling zine, which made its way across Brazil in the process. If you haven’t already, take a moment to help us evaluate Season 1 of Popul/Arte. Read and enjoy “Viajante”

We are happy to report that the LCAC was selected to be a part of Adelante Colorado, a three-year initiative from the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado! We are proud to be a participant of Adelante and are committed to growing our collective power across the state. This experience will help us think strategically and thoughtfully about activating Las Bodegas.

The LCAC Team spent the early months of the pandemic asking questions and listening to your responses. We heard you loud and clear when you helped us identify a need for a community art space that is interdisciplinary, intercultural and intergenerational. You helped shape our mission, vision and values. In the coming weeks, we will be rolling out the next phase of our participatory design process - STAY TUNED!

I want to personally invite you to National Night Out on August 3, 2021 from 5pm to 8pm. The Denver Dream Center, the Latino Cultural Arts Center, and Servicios de la Raza are teaming up with the Denver Police Department (DPD), District 1. We will be launching the design of a community mural project led by a young local artist! Join us at the 3100 block of Avondale drive (14th and Federal) for a night of celebration, featuring live art, entertainment, food, and more. The DPD Lowrider will be joined by local car clubs while the LCAC Mambo Orchestra, led by Maestro, Eric Trujillo, will make its debut!

You do not want to miss this. We look forward to seeing you there!

National Night Out is a nation-wide initiative to build community among local neighborhoods and police departments. This timely collaboration contributes to conversations about community-led policing, while creating mentorship opportunities for young people in the cultural arts. Seasoned artists will support a young artist to capture local histories & instill a sense of pride.

With the skyline as our backdrop, come out to celebrate and relax as we welcome a chill summer night in Denver.
Popul/Arte (Season 1) Ends With a Traveling Zine -
Viajante Moves Across Brazil & Washington State

Popul/Arte offered two weekly workshops designed by artists and scholars to uplift cities through art and research. We were joined by participants from Los Angeles and Rio de Janeiro, to Alamosa, Colorado. Season 1 ends with the release of Viajante, a traveling zine that made its way across Brazil among the members of Negráfrica. They creatively summarize the lessons shared by Dr. Wilson-Becerril about plurality and environmental solidarity. Did you happen to miss the workshops? ¡No te preocupes! Don’t worry! You can now create and learn alongside Negráfrica and Michael on YouTube in English, Spanish & Portuguese.
WE NEED YOUR HELP evaluating Popul/Arte Season One!
We Want to Know Your Thoughts

We would appreciate your feedback so we can make Popul/Arte the best it can be in the future. Please take some time to fill out the program evaluation.
