Friedens Church
July 2021
From our Pastors

Dear Friedens Family,
Summer always seems to bring with it a sense of joy and “lightness”. This year it seems even more so with increased activity and travel as the effects of the pandemic seem to lessen.

People are beginning to experience a sense of joy over being able to see friends and family ; to be able to communicate without the barrier of a face mask; to have the ability to embrace another in a hug. Joy comes in many different ways and it is more than a sense of happiness. Joy is a sense of wholeness …completeness. It is of God. As Catholic priest Father Ron Rolheiser so beautifully states, “Joy isn't just a sure sign of God's life in the soul, it's a sign of Gods life: period. Joy constitutes the inner life of God. God is joy."

May you live the truth this summer and all our days that God is joy!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13

Blessings in Christ
Pastor Sonja and Pastor Dave

From our Council President

Welcome to Summer! It seems like the dog days of summer have been here for the past couple of months – but there is some real excitement about high temperatures of 89 degrees this week – add in the possibility of rain and we are jumping for joy.
Speaking of jumping for joy – tomorrow is the last night of Vacation Bible School and it has been and exciting year. Vicki Wilson and her staff have done an amazing job and the feedback from participants has been great! Thank you Vicki and her staff of volunteers to delivering a fun, but safe VBS for our kids - and yes you can jump for joy!! It has certainly great to see the kids back in the church. The BEST part of this is that there are several FELA kids that are staying behind and helping with the singing parts!!
Kids in Church – that brings up another topic – did you know that we have the nursery service available again during Sunday morning service? Pastor Dave made the comment last week that he was excited to see the kids come forward for the Sunday Children’s moment (which if you are like me - this is really the adult’s moment too!) – so just a reminder that the nursery service is available for families to use.
Church Council – met last week and progress continues to be made toward returning to normal. First, the next Fish Fry on July 16th and will be in person, so be ready to get your fish plate and hang out to meet your new old friends again. While discussing returning to normal operations – the council had a discussion to allow the return of church rentals as needed – while keeping the regular sanitation in the criteria, there will be more to follow as the council figures out how to make this be safe for those wishing to rent the church as well as safe for our church family to return to the church following a rental . . .
Last, the Church’s 125th Birthday Committee is back to planning and will have some events that you will not want to miss that will take place later this year – stay tuned for an update next month!!

Women of Friedens
News from
The Women of Friedens

The Women of Friedens met on Thursday, June 10. Kasie Tankersley, a Community Relations Representative from GVEC presented the program. Yvonne Robbins read a devotional entitled “Joy”. The business meeting followed.
The group will not meet in July as that is our vacation month. At our  August meeting we will finalize plans for our September meeting, and we will also get Thank Offering envelopes ready for distribution in September.
All women of the church are welcome to join us at our next meeting on Thursday, August 12 at 2:00 in the Activity Center small Meeting Room.
Friedens Early Learning
Academy News

It is great to be getting back to pre-COVID routines. Parents can once again drop off and pick up their children inside the building and walk them to the classrooms. It is good to be able to share our artwork and other activities with our families. During July we will be talking about the Independence Day holiday, vacations and the beach.
We had a wonderful response to our canned food drive for the Christian Cupboard. They were overjoyed when we delivered over 250 cans of food!
Happy Independence Day to everyone! Once again, thank you for your continued support of Friedens Early Learning Academy.
We had a joint effort today with Friedens and First United Methodist churches volunteers to build a ramp for Mr. Candar de la Cruz. We started @ 5:00 and finished right at 6:30. Mr. De La Cruz came out when we were finished and took a test run telling us how much he liked the ramp and how much it would help him getting to Doctors appointments, etc.. Pastor Ray lead us in a prayer of hope for the future and we all appreciate the opportunity to be Christ’s hands and feet!
