Featured Artist: Eva Poole-Gilson
Eva’s has published in many small literary journals and newspapers. Her books, Love Letter to the High Sierra, Little Star Sleeping, and Whiskered Wisdom, are available on Amazon. Eva also wrote Barefoot in the Sanctuary, a one-woman show, which she performed in 2012 at the Inyo Council for the Arts and at Mill Creek Station. In 2014 her play, Who’s Lying Down in Your Heart? was performed at Mammoth Lakes Repertory Theatre by Poetic Justice Project via a California Arts Council grant.
California Poets in the Schools has been Eva’s main workplace, teaching poetry to K-12 students. For CPITS, she organized 18 annual poetry conferences for fourth through twelfth graders in Inyo and Mono counties, taught by accomplished CPITS poet-teachers: three intensive days of studying and writing poetry, capped each year with a final gala party, students reading their original poems each year to a surprisingly large public audience.
In the 1980s while poet-in-residence at Bishop High School, sponsored by the California Arts Council, Eva created ArtBreak, a weekly TV program featuring student and adult artists, local and visiting. Through Cerro Coso College, and privately, she’s led literature appreciation and writing workshops for adults, young and old, beginning and seasoned writers.
