Featured Member: Steve Monahan
Steve is the Director of Information Technology Services for Butte County Office of Education. He was kind enough to tell us a little about himself, his background, and his experience as a CITE member.
How long have you been in your current role and how did you get there?
"I've been a technology director for the past six years. Prior to becoming the Director, I've worked for Butte County Office of Education for 18 years. I started as a systems administrator and was promoted to other positions such as network engineer and systems operations manager."
How long have you been a CITE member? What is your favorite memory from a CITE event?
"I've been a CITE member for almost eleven years. My favorite memory was during the 2019 Anaheim CITE Conference. Being able to present on disaster recovery and speak with many colleges throughout the state is something I'll never forget. After experiencing the Butte County Camp fire the year prior and missing the CITE conference, attending the Anaheim conference was by far the best memory I've had."

What do you do in your (limited) free time?
"To try and keep my sanity, I play guitar and work out when I have time to do so."

Are there any special shoutouts you'd like to give to someone in your life or the CITE Community who has made a special impact on you?
"I would like to shout out to all TSC members who've helped me grow as a person these past few years, and have been a voice of reasoning during the times in need."

What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy playing basketball. Other hobbies that I enjoy are making beats or experimenting with making videos with my family.

Did you ever see yourself hosting a Podcast, why or why not?
I actually did after my last CITE conference, but my discipline is not great with doing it on my own, so I am fortunate to be working with a great team of ladies to put me in my place.
Jamie

What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy exploring nature through hiking, biking, walking. I'll do anything to be outside. REI's get outside campaign that started on Black Friday feels like a holiday to me. You can find me at work under a tree slogging through emails or working on projects, or reading the Nature Fix. I'm convinced I'm happier and more creative outside. I'm also on a quest with my dad to visit baseball stadiums. We've been on pause for a bit, but hoping to start the tour again, and wear my Dodger's hat at every stadium as he wears his Yankee's gear.

Did you ever see yourself hosting a Podcast, why or why not?
I once got hired at Universal when I was 16, it was for the winter break temp work to be a cashier at one of the gift shops. The hiring person said that maybe I could be one of the tram hosts one day. I always think about that. If I hadn't started working at an after-school daycare and then summer camp, which led to teaching, I might have been a tour guide at Universal, or maybe for a cruise ship. So, podcasting fulfills that unrealized goal of talking to cool people and going on a journey together.
