Hello!

Summer is one of my favorite times of the year! I love the long days and beautiful sunsets. I hope you and your families are also making good use of the many hours of daylight and spending time together outdoors.

We are happy to welcome our students back again this fall and are busy awarding scholarships totaling over $880,000 to almost 700 students. This is an unprecedented amount and will help our students succeed in their educational journey!

Thank you for your support and belief in our mission! Happy Summer!

Alumni Spotlight: Former ECC Baseball Standout Selected to 2022 MLB All Star Game
Former ECC Baseball Star, Garrett Cooper, was recently selected to the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, playing for the National League team. This was Cooper's first All-Star game selection.

Cooper played at El Camino College for two seasons (2009-2011) and then earned a scholarship to continue his playing career at Auburn University, where he was a sixth-round draft pick by the Milwaukee Brewers.

After a trade to the New York Yankees in 2017, Cooper made his Major League Baseball debut for the Yankees playing against rival Boston Red Sox at the historic Fenway Park. Later that year, he was traded to the Miami Marlins and has been playing there since.

Community Partners Spotlight: Kinecta Connects the Community
Community Partner Kinecta Federal Credit Union recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its brand new Manhattan Beach branch. Foundation Board of Director, Ann O'Brien (far right) and Foundation Development Officer, Heidi Wang (far left), attended the event.

We donated a backpack full of school supplies and fun ECC swag to the raffle, and toddler Makaiya Sampang (center) was the lucky winner. Her big cousin, Kayla Williams (holding Makaiya), is a current El Camino criminology student. The backpack could not have gone to a more perfect pair!

Thank you Kinecta, for helping us further connect with the community!
Community Partners Spotlight: AT&T is Prepared for Severe Weather, Power Outages, and Potential Disasters
As a valued Community Partner, we would like to share this important information with you from AT&T on how to prepare for disasters and stay connected during a power outage.

Preparedness is key. Planning ahead and knowing what actions to take before you find yourself in the midst of a disaster will give you more time to focus on the things that matter when a disaster does strike.

Losing service during a disaster can be not only frustrating, but scary. It is AT&T’s priority to keep you up to date on service outages, help troubleshoot any issues you may be experiencing with our network.

Community Giving: Gifts Don't Need to Take a Break Over Summer
