A message from Charles Dunlap, Indiana Bar Foundation President & CEO
The Foundation recently hosted our inaugural annual meeting and awards luncheon on June 24. Looking at those gathered for the celebration was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many successes from the 2021-2022 fiscal year with our community of partners, donors, friends, staff, and board members. The energy and collegiality were unmistakable. It didn’t hurt that we just happened to be celebrating Justice Steven David, long-time civics educator Janet Chandler, and civil legal assistance leader Scott Wylie in addition to highlighting some of the Foundation’s significant accomplishments this past year. I don’t think we could have honored a more deserving group of people for our inaugural awardees. The throngs of friends and supporters of all of our awardees clearly demonstrated the respect and admiration that each one carries in the Indiana legal community.

The end of June means the conclusion of one fiscal year and the beginning of another, which also brings a transition to the Foundation board. I have enjoyed working with Scott Barnhart as the Foundation Board Chair for the last two years. Scott has been so generous to the Foundation in providing excellent leadership during his almost decade of board service. Caryn Glawe of Faegre Drinker will officially begin her 2-year term as Foundation board chair today (July 1), ensuring that the Foundation’s excellent board leadership will continue. Caryn will bring a fresh perspective, and the new additions to the board of Dr. Robert Dion, Sharon Jackson, and the Honorable Richard J. Young will continue the Foundation’s tradition of strong board leadership. I also want to take a moment to thank our outgoing board members, Scott Barnhart, Robert Beasley, Janet Chandler, and Scott Wylie, for their service.

This is an exciting time of year as we celebrate our success and look towards the next 12 months, where we will continue to build on those successes. We look forward to deploying resources supporting the $13 million legal services housing contract, expanding the Mock Trial Diversity Initiative, launching new and expanded programs, and continuing to earn your trust in all we do. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you and your family enjoy the United States’ 246th independence Day celebration this July 4.
