June has been a whirlwind! While others have shifted into vacation mode Adoption Mosaic has been busy attending conferences and connecting with our adoptee community.
First, I had the opportunity to attend the Adoption Trafficking Awareness Symposium in Tacoma, WA. Wow, it was a life changing experience. Thank you to the organizers and speakers for this impactful event.
Then, Shelise and I attended the 2022 KAAN conference in Denver, CO. Adoption Mosaic presented three panels: Adult Children of Adoptees, Partners of Adoptees and Season Parents. Thank you to our panelists, Maya, Megan, Andy, Shelise, Samantha, and Maureen and thank you to KAAN for creating a wonderful, adoptee-centered event.
Finally, I finished the month connecting with my adoptee community in the Denver area while also spending time with my biggest cheerleaders, mom and dad.
I cannot express how fulfilling and joyful it has been to connect with the adoption community this month - greeting old friends and meeting new friends. All of the events and interactions have crystallized for me that Adoption Mosaic is absolutely doing the work that our community needs.
This is a heavy time for adoptees. We are being thrust into the spotlight to definitively confirm or deny adoption as an easy solution for both pro-life and pro-choice points of view. Adult adoptees, I hope you have your people to support you as your existence comes into question over and over again. (Don't hesitate to reach out!) Adoptive parents, I hope you are giving your adoptees the language to talk about abortion/adoption and modeling to them how to decline using their personal stories for political fodder. I hope my entire community sees me and Adoption Mosaic as a resource for support and education.
I hope to see you all Saturday, July 9 for our We the Experts: Adoptee Speaker Series featuring four inspiring adoptee artists who are using their creativity and talent to bring the adoptee experience - with ALL its complexity and nuance - to center stage.
