Cash Bar vs Hosted Bar - Insurance Costs
I have a question for my colleagues who have conference events in which alcohol is served. I was under the impression that the liability to an Association is less if a cash bar is provided versus providing a hosted bar. However, I am now learning that the insurance to cover a cash bar is actually much more expensive... If your Association provides a bar (cash bar or hosted bar) in conjunction with your meetings and conferences, how do you handle this? Have you found a solution with your insurance provider that isn't cost prohibitive? Any insight you can share would be much appreciated.

Host a CEO Roundtable
CEO Roundtables are free, in-person gatherings for association Chief Staff Executives (CEOs/Presidents/Executive Directors) to meet and discuss current challenges, successes and emerging topics impacting associations and our industry. CEO Roundtables are hosted by association executives at their headquarters in the greater Madison and Milwaukee areas. Events occur from 8:00-9:00 am on a weekday. To foster and ensure a casual, candid, and confidential setting, attendance to the CEO Roundtables is restricted to association CEOs only.
Expectations of CEO Roundtable Hosts:
- Complete this "CEO Roundtable Host - Interest Form" to express your willingness to host an upcoming event
- Accommodate meeting space (tables/chairs) for 15-20 individuals
- Pay for and provide coffee/beverages and light refreshments for attendees
WSAE Staff will:
- Connect with you to confirm and finalize details (within 1 week of receiving a completed interest form)
- Create and manage the RSVP for your CEO Roundtable event
- Promote the CEO Roundtable event to WSAE members
- Send the final attendee RVSP list to you a few days in advance of your CEO Roundtable event

Congratulations to the Summer 2022 Class of CAEs
The Summer 2022 class of CAEs successfully completed the CAE examination administered worldwide May 1-14, 2022. They will be honored, along with the 2020, 2021, and 2022 classes of CAEs, during the 2022 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition in Nashville, TN, August 20-23.

Cassandra Krause Promoted at Wisconsin Bankers Association
The Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA) is pleased to announce the promotion of Cassandra Krause to executive director of the Wisconsin Bankers Foundation (WBF). Krause has been selected by the WBF Board of Directors to serve as the Foundation’s executive director. WBF is the nonprofit arm of WBA whose mission is to promote financial literacy and capability through education, grants, scholarships, and research. She will continue her role as WBA communications manager, which she began in March of 2021. Krause came to WBA from the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

Kim Schardin, MBA, CAE Joins AMPED as Executive Director of the Society for Research on Adolescence
AMPED Association Management is pleased to announce that Kim Schardin, MBA, CAE has joined the AMPED family as the Executive Director of the Society for Research on Adolescence (SRA).
Schardin has nearly 20 years of experience working with associations and nonprofits in the areas of meetings, membership, programming and executive leadership. She has served such diverse organizations as the Functional Neurological Disorder Society, Growing Spine Foundation, American Association of Medical Society Executives, American College of Mohs Surgery and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
“Throughout my career, I have enjoyed working with experts who make a difference in their field,” said Schardin, “and now I am honored to support SRA in their mission to enhance the wellbeing of youth in a globalized world by addressing issues such as racism, violence, depression, and inclusion.”

MABA Receives Multiple Recognitions
The Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) was awarded the 2021 Local HBA of the Year award from the Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) at its Celebration of Housing event in June. MABA earned this honor based upon new member growth, membership retention and political fundraising. In 2021, MABA also partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County to raise nearly $27 Million in donations this past year to build the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center to train youth in the trades and construction industry. The program has grown into a national program in double digit cities nationwide and looks to expand exponentially in the years to come. MABA further partnered with the Metropolitan Builders Association and NARI of Madison to host the first of its kind women in the construction industry conference, BuildX, which brought together over 130 women in the industry to focus on professional and personal development.

Wisconsin Dermatological Society (WDS) Selects Association Resource Center (ARC) as AMC
The Wisconsin Dermatological Society (WDS) has selected Association Resource Center (ARC) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to provide association management services. Marie Odden, CAE, will serve as Executive Director aided by the many talented and experienced Executive and Coordinator staff to execute their critical mission: To provide support for continuing medical education in the field of dermatology, and collaboration among dermatologists to address issues affecting the cutaneous health of the people of Wisconsin.
“I look forward to bringing my medical organization management experience to the Wisconsin Dermatological Society Board and its members,” said Odden. “I am excited to be entrusted with the care of the association management for a group of professionals who advocate for the advancement of diagnosis in medical, surgical and cosmetic treatment. Their high standard of care for Wisconsin patients, passion for providing education to their members and prioritization of advocacy and research in dermatology is the reason I enjoy association management.”

Milwaukee Selected to Host 2024 Republican National Convention
Today the Republican National Committee's Site Selection Committee announced that Milwaukee is its choice to host its 2024 convention. The decision still needs to be voted on by the party at its August summer meeting. This convention will bring roughly 45,000 attendees from around the country, giving a much-needed boost to Milwaukee businesses that serve Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike.
