Chicago Center for Integration and Healing
Community Newsletter, June 2022
Dear CCIH Community--

We took some time in our recent staff meeting to check in around some of the difficult events we have all borne witness too over the past month.

As therapists, we are often both working through our own reactions to tragic events and sitting with clients working through their own, which can feel heavy and isolating at times. It was helpful and grounding to share our thoughts and experiences with each other. We hope that you too are connecting with your loved ones and community in whatever way you can at this time.

We continue to find meaning in our work with clients and our fellow therapists. Here's what is happening at CCIH this month:

Recently, a cis person introduced me with the sentence, “This is Hannah and she uses they/them pronouns.” He knew that gendering me correctly was respectful and important, but I don’t think he really understood and internalized the fact that I’m not a woman.

Effective tools to build present-centered awareness, like mindfulness, can feel unsustainable and impossible when we can’t engage in the way we want to. How do we build capacity for present-centered awareness that takes our nervous system and history into account?
