Greetings,
Summer is in full force at Constructing Hope with both our Adult Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program and Summer Youth Program in session. It is a busy and hopeful time! 2022 marks Constructing Hope’s 15th anniversary as a state certified pre-apprenticeship training program. We are hosting two events this Fall to commemorate this milestone - a reunion event for graduates and their families and Celebration & Awards Happy Hour Fundraiser. Stay tuned for more details on both.
I'm also excited to share that we are expanding the career support services provided to trainees. We’ve recently added a Job Board, which gives graduates access to job listings they can apply for with the help of a Job Developer. Our goal is to ensure every graduate has the support they need to quickly enter into the workforce as prepared and safely as possible.
We continue to adapt and transition as an organization. Our Workforce Training Center Expansion Project is complete, and we are fully moved back into our beautifully updated space. It's such an exciting time at Constructing Hope, and we are so grateful for the many partners and community members that are by our side in this important work.

Growing your Career as a Female in the Trades Recap
Our June 2 virtual Mentoring Event was an opportunity to openly share and discuss the struggles of women in the trades and how to overcome them and stay motivated.
Presenters included Kate Day & Sara DeLuca of Dovetail Workwear, Darci Fredericks of California Closets and Constructing Hope graduates Brooke Jurries, Kasey Finegan and Isis Harris. Each shared their own experience. Topics discussed were struggles with health and personal family pressures, being part of the LGBTQ+ community and working in the trades and being a black female in the trades.

Leveling the Playing
Field Campaign Recap
Our 3rd Annual Leveling the Playing Field Campaign took place June 10 - 24, 2022.
The campaign highlights our work to provide low-income, recently returning community members and people of color the opportunity to play in the construction industry and raises critical funds that allow us to continue to Level the Playing Field. The more than $103,000 raised will provide training and support services for three years for EIGHT pre-apprenticeship trainees.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated. Our matching donors Dave Dahl, Glenn Dahl, LiUNA Local 737 and the Coshow Family Charitable Fund inspired generosity from our community. Our sponsors serve as the foundation of this important campaign.

Summer 2022 Adult Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program & Youth Program Updates | |

On June 28, 2022, we welcomed 15 students into our adult summer cohort. Over the past few weeks, our trainees have been busy learning about general construction knowledge, such as how to read a tape measure, soft skills, math and completed their safety certifications. Graduation will be held on Sept. 6.
On July 11, 2022, we welcomed 15 youth into our summer youth program. This program allows those ages 16-19 who are interested in the trades have hands on experience and get a taste of the construction world within a paid 5-week program.

15th Anniversary Reunion
On September 10 from 3-5p.m., we will host a gathering for graduates in honor of the 15 years of service Constructing Hope has provided. Everyone is welcome to come get food and celebrate at Native American Youth & Family Center - 5135 NE Columbia Blvd, Portland, OR 97218. More details to follow!
15th Anniversary Celebration & Awards Happy Hour
On October 6, 2022, we will be celebrating the impact of our 15 years as a state-certified pre-apprenticeship training program. We'll honor a few of the partners who have played an important role in our history, as well as highlight a Constructing Hope graduate over happy hour at Irving Street Studios. We would love for you to join us in celebrating all that we've accomplished and help us continue to provide support and services.
