Caitlyn's Recommendation: The Fort by Gordon Korman
This is Gordon Korman's 100th book! When five boys are exploring in the woods after a hurricane hits their town, they stumble upon a underground fort that they believe was a bomb shelter built by a wealthy man in town a long time ago. They make a pact to keep it a secret between the five of them and they all use it for different things; though arguably the most important use of it is by CJ, who's using it as an escape from his abusive stepfather. When the town bullies start to suspect the boys of keeping secrets from them, and CJ's stepfather starts to get worse, keeping the fort a secret is more important than ever. Best for grades 6 and up.
Kristy's Recommendation: Cinder by Marissa Meyer
I love this classic science fiction adventure story that re-imagines Cinderella in a futuristic world in which cyborgs and droids live among humans. As a deadly pandemic wreaks havoc around the world, Cinder, secretly living as a Cyborg, meets Prince Kai, the soon to be king. Little do they know that their world is about to change dramatically when political and personal events come crashing together. This book is also great on audio and is available to check out immediately through Hoopla. Great for grades 6 and up.

In order to be told anything useful, Maren must join and make it through the dangerous initiation.
