Time to enjoy those veggies as they come to life!

If you can remember how tasty and crunchy the first of your early spring vegetables were, you can repeat that same experience by planting some of your favourites in July to enjoy them in a few months.

Choose fast growing plants that mature in 60 days or less, radishes are ready to eat in 25 days! You can also try some beans, beets, snap peas, and lettuce. The leaves of these are delicious as additions in salads or sandwiches.

Many garden centers still have an abundance of small plants at great sale prices that can be transplanted and grown to maturity. It is never too late to give tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers a try.

Tips to keep your garden thriving:

  • Be sure to add fresh, rich soil to your planting area and keep moist with rainwater if possible.
  • Protect seedlings and plants from scorching dry sunlight and harsh winds.
  • Keep a journal to reference next year so you are better equipped to decide what to grow again or if you would like to try something new.

Embrace the learning process. Not every vegetable will turn out perfectly and it is all a part of the gardening journey!
