LaTonya interview video

Congratulations to Literacy Network student LaTonya, who recently earned her High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) after working with Literacy Network tutors and Madison College.

LaTonya says, with her HSED, "I have a brighter future ahead." She received an Altrusa Scholarship through Literacy Network's partnership with Altrusa International of Madison to support her next steps of completing the aesthetics and nail tech programs at Academy of Beauty Professionals. LaTonya then plans to earn her bachelor's degree.

A peek inside the classroom: Writing SMART goals

What makes a goal "SMART"? In a recent Level 2 English class, students learned how to create goals that are "Specific," "Measurable," "Achievable," "Relevant," and "Time-Bound."

Students then practiced creating their own SMART goals. Goals varied broadly, ranging from not needing an interpreter at the doctor to owning a company. After making her goal, one student shared, "I am confident that l will succeed and l will be proud of myself."
