Improving the lives of Caregivers – 2022-23 Impact Report
The Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO) exists to support Ontario’s 4M caregivers. Coming out of the pandemic, caregivers continue to struggle. More caregivers are investing more hours each week providing care. The majority are also raising a family and working. Providing care is becoming harder and the number of caregivers experiencing burn out is increasing. Last year, 67% of caregivers in Ontario said they reached their breaking point but had to keep going. Now more than ever, caregivers need support. The OCO is proud to share its 2022-23 Impact Report and how its making a difference in the lives of caregivers.

At a Glance:
  • Achieved a 50% increase in participation in OCO’s activities
  • Launched the Essential Care Partner Support Hub in partnership with Ontario Health
  • Awarded 37 grants to family support networks
  • Created the Undercover Kindness Project
  • 2,756 Helpline calls/chats
  • 50,604 Views of online events

July 24th is International Self-Care Day
Caring for yourself is one of the most important things you can do as a caregiver. But often, caregivers prioritize the needs of others over their own. In recognition of International Self-Care Day, here are some practical tips you can use:

  • Watch for signs of increasing stress like fatigue, loss of appetite, difficulty falling asleep, etc.
  • Try stress-relieving activities including going for a walk, spend time with family and friends, participate in other social and recreational activities, etc.

In our recent webinar, Laura Jackson, a registered nurse and healthcare leader also helped caregivers identify ways to care for themselves. Watch the replay to learn tips for developing your own mindfulness routine.
