So no one in our community goes hungry.

Woof-a-thon is Back!

After a three-year, pandemic-related hiatus, Ocean Shores Woof-a-thon is back! An event open to all local dogs (and their humans), Woof-a-thon will be held Saturday, August 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ocean Shores Lions Club (832 Ocean Shores Blvd NW).

Woof-a-thon is not only fun, but it raises money for local charities that serve pets and their owners such as North Beach PAWS and the Ocean Shores Food Bank’s fund that provides free dog and cat food to its guests.

This year’s Woof-a-thon will include a ribbon cutting by Ocean Shores Mayor Jon Martin, a dog walk where you can show off your canine companion, a raffle, and contests. All that and Paws and Claws will be there providing free nail trims!

So, mark your calendar for the biggest dog day of the year—Ocean Shores Woof-a-thon!

A guest recently shared with us that “as a senior, the food bank helps up to make ends meet. With prescriptions and doctor’s visits, food is the first to go.”

Many thanks to all of our supporters for helping us ensure that even when those bills are mounting up, our neighbors will have the nutritious food they need to help stay healthy.

Thanks for the Pet Treats!

The Ocean Shores Food Bank maintains a separate fund for the purchase of pet food--a fund that is regularly augmented by supporters who also donate pet food. In fact, over the last quarter, the food bank has given out an average of over 700 pounds of pet food each month.

But in addition to this, something very special happened at our July 6th distribution! We were surprised with the gift of home-baked pet treats made by food bank supporter Cynthia Powell. (See picture above.) These delicious treats made the day for our guests and their furry family members. Thank you, Cynthia, for your generosity.

The Ocean Shores Food Bank is an all-volunteer organization, and we are always looking for more folks to join us as we work to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.

We particularly need help keeping our shelves stocked during our Thursday distribution. If you are someone who can work on your feet moving items from our warehouse and onto our shelves for a two or three-hour shift as part of a two to three-person team, we want to hear from you!

Volunteering at the food bank is fun. You’ll meet new people and, most importantly, you are helping put food on local tables. For more information, visit our website or contact our Volunteer Coordinator Kathy Baker at nwkate91@gmail.com.
