New York City Employment Law (Candidates)
NYC just passed a first-of-its-kind AI law related to employment. In short, it requires you to:
- Notify candidates who live in NYC that AI is being used and how it functions, as well as their ability to request an accommodation AND
- Conduct audits of AI tools used to make employment decisions to determine if those tools are discriminating based on sex, race, or ethnicity and π₯πͺππ‘ππ¨π impact ratios.
Oh, and non-compliance carries up to a $1,500 per violation.
This is the first of many AI employment laws we'll see. Even if you're not in NYC, pay attention to this if you're using AI or thinking about using AI in your workplace.
And, you might check to see if you're using what constitutes AI under this law. It takes an expansive view of AI. You may be subject to this law, much to your surprise.
