AB: PAS File Changes for Brine-Hosted Minerals |
- a routine water analysis that includes major ions, total dissolved solids, pH, H2S, resistivity, conductivity, density
- a trace element analysis for barium, boron, bromine, iodine, lithium, manganese, silicon, strontium, titanium, uranium, vanadium, and zinc and the results for any other trace elements analyzed.
The Digital Data Submission (DDS) system has been updated to enable the collection of this new data in the pressure ASCII standard (PAS) file. The updated PAS file specifications are available here: aer.ca > Providing Information > Data and Reports > Activity and Data > Well Testing Schedules.

AB: New Edition of Directive 065 |
The principles and objectives for industry regarding monitoring, measurement, and verification plans for carbon dioxide sequestration projects are included in Appendix P of Directive 065.

AB: New Report Available - Licensee C* Report |
On July 7, 2023, the Department of Energy and Minerals has implemented a new Licensee C* Report.
This report contains a complete record of all C* licences issued to the licensee, including those without current period production volumes, and those with C* fully drawn down.
Key data included in the report:
- Licence well event and battery ties.
- Licence and well status information including status effective dates.
- Total C* calculated, total revenue taken, and C* remaining.
The new report is available in Petrinex as part of the monthly royalty report package provided by the department. Existing C* reports continue to be available and are unaltered.

SK: CSA Z662:23 in effect |
In accordance with section 2.1 of Directive PNG034: Saskatchewan Pipeline Code (PNG034), the minimum requirements for the design, construction, operation, modification, discontinuation, and abandonment of pipelines must be in accordance with the most recent published version of CSA Z662.
ER intends to prohibit the use of safety classes and the pressure design approach introduced into Annex C of CSA Z662-23. Therefore, ER will not be enforcing those elements of CSA Z662-23.

BC: New Activity Type in Application Management System (AMS) for Restoration |
The BCER has enhanced the Application Management System (AMS) to add a new Activity Type for Restoration, effective July 10, 2023.
This change is part of a pilot project with the Ministry of Forests (FOR) to increase permitting efficiency for restoration projects in northeast BC. The BCER will be taking on delegated authority to permit certain types of restoration activities.

BC: On-Site Methane Surveys Planned for Mid-July |
The BCER, in collaboration with the BC government and United Nations Environment Programme International Methane Emissions Observatory, has initiated multiple field studies to better understand the sources of methane emissions from the province’s energy sector. Comprehensive, on-site methane surveys are planned at chosen wells and facilities in BC for 2023.
This work will require the collaboration and input from oil and gas operators to allow site access to ground crews, which is expected to begin in mid-July and be completed by mid-October 2023. The ground-based measurements will be led by Greenpath Energy Ltd. under the direction of EERL.

BC: Low Water Advisory with the Potential of Long-Term Water Shortages |
As of July 12, the BCER has suspended surface water withdrawals issued under Section 10 of the Water Sustainability Act (WSA) across most of northeast BC and is working with Ministry of Forests representatives in other regions to determine if further restrictions are needed.
