La Academia de Fútbol Monterey

This summer has been busy for La Academia. We currently are training four groups on Mondays and Wednesdays - Performance, Foundations, Teams, and Goalkeepers.

Coach Roy has been working with our advanced Performance players on athletic development, small-space skills, and passing techniques. Our Foundations group has been focused on learning new on-ball moves, scanning, and change of speed. Coach Jose and Coach Mark have been working with the Teams group on positional play, rondos, and creating numerical advantages. Coach Daniel has delivered sessions with our goalkeepers focused on the unique requirements of the position.

Our final session for summer semester is August 9th. The Academy will take a 2-week break and then start on our fall semester on August 28th. More information on the fall semester is included below.

We continue to be pleased with the response to our programs. We think that our player-focused model is unique in the area and we look forward to continuing to serve the Monterey Bay community.

If you have concerns, questions, or want more information about our programs, please reach out to me at the link at the bottom of this email or click exec@futbolmonterey.org.

La Academia summer 2023 camp - AF Monterey

AF Monterey held our first summer Player's Edge camp during the week of June 12th. About 20 players participated in our sessions. Each day's activities included technical skills development, video sessions, and individual player coaching. The camp was based on AF Monterey's curriculum model and player-focused philosophy. Each camper received an Academy training jersey and mini-soccer ball for personal development.

Academy Training Balls

Starting at our Player's Edge camp, each new player enrolled in our programs will receive a training ball for at-home personal development. These balls are perfect for working on skills indoors or outdoors.

Fall 2023 semester

Our fall 2023 semester will begin on August 21st and run through November 8th. The session will total 12 weeks and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at our training center at Monterey Peninsula College.

Registration is currently open for Player's Edge - Foundations, Performance, and Goalkeeper. A minimum number of students must be enrolled for each class. Registration for Team Edge will open in early August.

Our player-focused curriculum is designed to bring out the best in each student. The Academy coaching staff is looking forward to working with new and returning players in our fall programs.

Women's World Cup 2023

Teams from all over the world are currently participating in the Women's World Cup (WWC) in Australia and New Zealand. Among the favorites are France, England, Netherlands, Germany, Canada, and USA.

We strongly encourage our Academy players to watch as many games as possible. Games are televised on Fox, FS1, and Telemundo. Due to the time difference, many of the games are late at night. Highlight videos can be found on YouTube.

Academy Training Jerseys

Summer semester players should have received their training jersey. If you have not received your jersey, please email info@futbolmonterey.org.

Speed training equipment

We're excited to announce that we have purchased speed timing equipment for La Academia. Beginning in fall semester, our athletes will have access to laser-accurate data on their speed and acceleration performance. This will aid our coaches in providing feedback to our players as part of our athletic development curriculm.
