Housing Assignments, Move-In, and Renter's Insurance

Housing Assignments:

Your student's 2024-2025 Residential Life housing assignment, including their roommate and suitemates, is now available to be viewed on the Housing Portal. They can log into the Housing Portal via WebSTAC.

Encourage your student to reach out to their roommate/suitemates, if applicable, via their WashU email(s) to do introductions and discuss what items they will be bringing to the room or suite! A recommended packing list can be found on the new students website.

Residential Life (ResLife) works diligently to meet the room preferences of our students. When demand exceeds the supply of a given room type, they are not able to meet all room preferences. If your student wishes to request a room change, they can access the Room Change Form via the Request Forms tab on the Housing Portal. ResLife will not begin processing room change requests until after the first two weeks after fall classes begin.

Incoming First year students are not permitted to move in early.

Move-In Date and Time Selection:

Your student will have the ability to select their move-in date and time on the Housing Portal beginning on Friday, July 5 at 1:00 PM CT. They can view instructions on how to select their move-in date and time. The first-year move-in dates are Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17. Timeslots are from 9:00 AM CT to 5:00 PM CT on those days.

Fall varsity athletes may have different arrival dates than those stated above. Please encourage your student to check in with their head coach for more information.

Incoming first-year international students will move-in on Wednesday, August 14. Please encourage your student to complete the OISS First-Year International Arrival Form by Sunday, July 14.

Renter's Insurance:

WashU has partnered with GradGuard to offer renter's insurance to students. Your student can obtain renter's insurance through GradGuard via the Request Forms tab on their Housing Portal.

ResLife strongly recommends that all students obtain renter's insurance prior to their scheduled move-in date and time either through GradGuard or another provider of their choice. ResLife is not responsible in the event of theft, destruction, or loss of money, valuables, or other personal property belonging to, or in the custody of a student, as stated in the Housing Terms and Conditions.

Meal Plan Adjustments

July 1 through September 8, students will have the option to adjust their meal plan by completing a Meal Plan Change Request Form via the Request Forms tab on their Housing Portal.

Meal plan changes can affect your student's financial aid package. Encourage your student to contact their Student Financial Services Counselor prior to submitting a Meal Plan Change Request Form.

To learn more about the different meal plans offered, encourage your student to please visit WashU Dining Services

Academics

Course Registration

Registration for fall 2024 courses will take place between July 9-11 during your student's assigned registration time.

Your student's academic adviser reached out to them in mid-June about steps they needed to take in order to register during their assigned time. Remind your student to check their WashU email several times a week to have the most up-to-date information from their academic adviser!

Voting Information

Talk with your student about voter registration if they are eligible. Students may stay registered at home, or they can register to vote in Missouri. Visit the Gephardt Institute for more information.

Health & Well-Being

Your student must complete the following health and well-being requirements:

Religious, Spiritual, and Ethical Life

Religious, Spiritual, and Ethical Life supports all students of any/no religious, spiritual, or philosophical background. They offer fun pause retreats to help students de-stress, interfaith dialogues, a confidential listening ear, and connections to prayer spaces and religious groups.

A Conversation about Student Financial Services: July 16 at 5:30 PM CT

  • Student Financial Services (SFS) provides support to students in multiple ways. Students can also get assistance with finding on-campus jobs, how to navigate the billing process, and with budget planning. Jennifer Powell, Assistant Director for Student Financial Services, will join us for a conversation on paying your student’s bill, financial assistance, student employment, and payment and financing options.

A Conversation about Move-In and Fall Welcome: August 6 at 5:30 PM CT

  • As students gear up for the Fall 2024 semester, we want to provide students and families the opportunity to learn more about Move-In Day and Bear Beginnings: Fall Welcome. Katharine Pei, Director of Student Transitions & Family Programs, and E’Quain Rhodes, Assistant Director of Housing Operations for Residential Life, join us to discuss what students and families need to know leading up to Move-In Day, Bear Beginnings: Fall Welcome, and Parent & Family Orientation.
