Dear Andrea,
Happy Summer! We have been enjoying a little bit of quiet on campus as we plan for our upcoming year. A new Foundation Strategic Plan; onboarding new Foundation Board members; starting to activate scholarships for fall 2024; budget planning; and we even squeezed in some Board of Directors fun and laughter at Topgolf in El Segundo. We are ready to take on the fall semester and the excitement it brings to our campus. But first ... a few more long summer days enjoying a new grandbaby, family vacation, beach walks, concerts in the park, and warm sunshine. Enjoy these "lazy" days of summer!
Warmly,

Campus Spotlight: 2024 Aerospace Summer Games Relocated to
El Camino College
| |
On July 27th, El Camino College will be the new host site for the annual Aerospace Summer Games. The games moved from Dockweiler Beach to El Camino College for the 20th running of the competition, which pits employees of South Bay aerospace companies against each other in 11 sporting event competitions.
The Aerospace Summer Games originated in 2002, as an informal event among a group of Boeing employees. It was canceled in 2021 and 2022 due to the pandemic. This year, more than 50 companies are set to participate. The 2024 edition of the Games is organized by Northrop Grumman. Good luck to all teams!

Student Spotlight: El Camino Student Danielle Kabboul Selected for Prestigious Meridian-Cox Foreign Service Fellowship
When Danielle Kabboul enrolled in El Camino in Fall 2022, she was looking forward to putting the stress of her pandemic high school years behind her and making a fresh start. Initially planning on focusing strictly on her academics and then transferring to a top-tier university, her path changed when she discovered what was possible at ECC.
It started with joining the college’s powerhouse forensics team, which led to Kabboul finding a supportive community that encouraged her to branch out even further from speech and debate to student government and clubs. She recently took her campus involvement to the next level and was elected to serve as president of ECC’s Associated Students Organization this fall.
This summer, Kabboul will participate in the Meridian-Cox Foreign Service Fellowship (Meridian International Center & Una Chapman Cox Foundation), an extremely selective paid summer enrichment and mentorship program in Washington, D.C. that focuses on expanding access to global education opportunities and international affairs. Approximately 475 students across all U.S. universities and colleges applied; 20 were invited to join the program. Read Danielle's full summer fellowship story HERE.

Community Partners Spotlight: Honda Continues to Support STEM Manufacturing & Engineering Technology Grant at El Camino
We are proud of our strong community partners and this includes our partnership with Honda. For the second year in a row, Honda is contributing the $25,000 Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Technology K-14 Career Pathway grant through the El Camino College Foundation. The El Camino College K-14 Engineering Technology Career Pathway serves 750 students at 9 local high schools in Torrance, El Segundo, Hawthorne, Lennox, and Los Angeles.
This contribution from Honda will allow ECC to expand the current Engineering Technology pathway by adding an Advanced Manufacturing focus. Students will gain high-demand skills in areas such as rapid prototyping, deposition modeling and 3D printing through industry leading CAD/CAM software and state-of-the-art equipment. Upon completion, students will be prepared to enter the workforce, or continue to receive more advanced educational opportunities.
Students will gain experience in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Computer Aided Manufacturing systems and will acquire a foundation in the principles of engineering, engineering design, digital electronics, automated manufacturing, and use the applications of math and science in technical fields. Careers in advanced manufacturing involve high-level technical work in the creation, production, utilization, and distribution of industrial materials, products, and processes.
Huge shout out to Honda on our strategic educational partnership and making the Power of Dreams come true!
