July 2024 Grants Newsletter

Happy Summer!

The July Grants Newsletter was delayed because the state budget was in its final days. We’re happy to provide you with this most recent edition, containing information on programs funded in the 2024-25 budget. We will return to our schedule of the second Wednesday of each month in August.

PA SITES Program Funded

One of the most exciting additions to the programs this fiscal year is the Pennsylvania Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites (PA SITES) Program. Housed within the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the program provides funds for site development, preparation, and other needs to ready sites for businesses to locate or expand in Pennsylvania.

The program includes both grant and loan options, and will be open to private, public, and nonprofit site developers working on both industrial and non-industrial economic development sites. A total of $500 million is dedicated to this program, with $100 million for use by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for grants through the Multimodal Transportation Fund program and the Small Water and Sewer program.

Eligible applicants include a municipality, an economic development organization,

a redevelopment authority, a municipal authority, an industrial development agency, or a for‐profit organization. Eligible projects, in addition to property acquisition, demolition, rehabilitation, and remediation, may include infrastructure construction and rehabilitation, transportation needs, communications needs, and administrative and permit costs.

Mixed Use Revitalization Program

The 2024-25 budget has also established the Mixed‐Use Revitalization Program. Administered by the CFA, the program provides grant funding for community revitalization projects that promote economic growth. This includes commercial assets and may include residential development opportunities.

Agriculture Innovation Grant Program

The Department of Agriculture will provide grants to promote and support agricultural innovation through the Agriculture Innovation Grant Program. Grants are to be awarded for projects that develop a strategic plan to use innovation to improve agricultural practices or focuses on implementing innovation practices.

Fresh Food Financing Program

The Fresh Food Financing program allocates unspent funds to be used to strengthen local food systems and increase opportunities for Pennsylvania farmers. Grants may be used to construct, rehabilitate or expand grocery stores, farmers’ markets or retail food establishments.
