July 2024 Newsletter

Can it really be almost August? Where did the summer go? It seems like summer is getting shorter and shorter!

The 2024-2025 school year is going to be a busy one… I know it will be for INPEA! INPAC 2024 is right around the corner. We also are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the birth of INPEA and we have a full year of celebrating planned! And last, but definitely not least, we have been working since the end of the last legislative session on a comprehensive strategy to achieve universal choice in 2025! And as you know, the strategy includes you!

We are looking forward to the upcoming school year and partnering with our member schools to make this one of our best years yet!

Sincerely,

John, Chris, Andrea, and Beatrice

The INPEA Team

Guidance on New Legislation

Cybersecurity and Ransomware Resources for Schools

Several counties have recently fallen victim to ransomware attacks. There are several free resources that can help schools prepare recovery paths and tighten their defenses.

IDOE’s School Cybersecurity Moodle is open to any new or existing school employee with cybersecurity, leadership, or technical responsibilities. This incredible resource provides updated vulnerability information, a discussion board for private cybersecurity discussions, the Indiana Cybersecurity Task Force resource repository, and an application form for KnowBe4 security awareness training licenses. Contact Brad Hagg with any questions and to request the access code.

Updates for High School Leaders

Feedback on Proposed High School Graduation Requirements

The Indiana State Board of Education (state board) is soliciting public comment on adding and amending the first draft of the diploma rule, now published in the Indiana Register. You can submit feedback, aligned to specific sections of the first draft here. Comments on the first draft will close on Tuesday, July 30, to ensure all feedback is reviewed prior to the publication of the second draft.

Indiana College Core Survey Required for High Schools

SEA 8 requires all state-accredited non-public high schools and Choice-eligible high schools to complete one of the following:

  1. Offer the Indiana College Core
  2. Submit an implementation plan to offer the ICC by the 2025-2026 or 2026-2027 school year
  3. Submit a feasibility report if your high school does not plan to offer the ICC by the 2026-2027 school year

The Commission for Higher Education has created a survey that will allow schools to report their intention to offer the ICC next year or will serve as the implementation plan or feasibility report required under SEA 8-2024.

This survey is due by October 1, 2024.
