Hello NTMCA,
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Independence Day. Our city puts on a fireworks event on July 4th, so we were blessed with a much needed three day weekend to recuperate. Mine was spent at "Cousin Camp" with my brother, sister and all the nieces and nephews, fishing, swimming, playing pickle ball and eating a lot of popsicles!
As we finish out the third quarter, most of us are in the thick of budget season and some are also planning for a November Election on top of that. I encourage everyone to attend our virtual meeting next week. Dr. Stevie Dawn will be back with a much needed mini session on "Preventing and Handling Burn Out." For everyone, the calendar is full this time of year and having a heathy work-life balance is important, but not always a priority.
This month, I challenge everyone to be intentional with how you prioritize the time you spent in the office and how you interact with your co-workers. Sometimes, taking five minutes to help someone make copies is all that is needed to turn someones mood around. Other times, just asking someone if there is anything you can do to take something off of their plate, even if they say no thank you, can flip the switch from a tense working environment to one that is conducive to teamwork and productivity.
My signature sign-off for emails is usually "Happy to help." I use it often and recently when I have been overloaded and over scheduled, it has been a great reminder to myself of what my purpose is at work and at home and why I got into this career to start with. I encourage everyone to find a little reminder that you can use to help you reflect when everything gets overwhelming, maybe a scripture, a quote, a photo or a song that you can use to re-center and re-focus. Enjoy the rest of the summer, stay cool, take some time for yourself, and as always....
Happy to help,
