Advocacy & Awareness

Minority Mental Health Month

This past month we recognized the struggles of marginalized communities in accessing mental health care. At Child & Family Center, we're dedicated to breaking down these barriers through education, advocacy, and support.

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are not just words to us – they're the core of our mission. We're committed to fostering culturally competent care and building supportive communities for everyone.

You can help raise awareness and start crucial conversations about mental health. Together, we can dismantle stigmas and ensure every individual has access to the care they deserve.

CEO Chats

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Summer is in full swing, and Child & Family Center has been busy! We have several new members who have joined our Board of Directors,

effective July 1st. They each bring dedication and passion to the Center to ensure we are fulfilling our mission of changing lives, healing relationships, and helping people thrive.

Our Prevention and Outreach teams are eagerly awaiting the start of the school year! Each week, the team provides several workshops, educational sessions, and presentations at our local elementary, middle, and high schools, to college students, and local area medical providers. They focus on topics such as Identifying Substance Use in Your Teen, Healthy Relationships, Signs of Domestic Abuse, Creating Healthy Boundaries, and many more. We are grateful to all the school districts we work with so we can present these important topics to the youth in our community.

We were thrilled to have our annual Family Fun Nite, and what a turnout we had! Thank you so much to our local area Elks Lodge 2379, for once again coming out and providing and cooking all the great food! This special event allows those we serve to come and have a stress-free event with their kiddos. A special thanks to all our volunteers who helped with face painting, arts and crafts, and more.

Thanks to a generous grant from the State of California, which we received through Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo’s office, we were able to purchase a brand-new van for our Domestic Violence Program and Shelter. This has been well overdue and will allow our caring and supportive staff to better meet the needs of the women and children we serve in that Program.

Finally, we celebrated National Minority Mental Health Month and International Self-Care Day. Both days are significant in ensuring we take time to reflect on and evaluate the equity of mental health care in our communities and the importance of taking time for ourselves.

I can’t conclude this letter without discussing the incredible impact the Center provided in June 2024. Here is a snapshot:

  • The Center conducted 7,138 sessions (mental health, counseling, psychiatry, case management).
  • We welcomed 79 new clients to our Center who enrolled in a program with us.
  • We celebrated the graduation of 153 clients from our programs.
  • We provided 1,027 unique individuals with various sessions (mental health, counseling, psychiatry case management).
