July 2024 Newsletter

Dear Beloved Members, Pastors, and Supporters:

As we enter the heart of hurricane season, our community often shifts into a mode of preparation. We stock up on essentials, secure our homes, and make plans to ensure the safety of our loved ones. This time of year reminds us not only of the power and unpredictability of nature but also of the importance of being spiritually prepared for the storms that life inevitably brings.

Building a Spiritual Foundation

Just as we build physical shelters to withstand the winds and rains, we must also fortify our spiritual foundations. Jesus spoke of this in Matthew 7:24-27, where He compared those who hear His words and put them into practice to a wise man who built his house on the rock. When the storms came, the house stood firm because it was built on a solid foundation.

In our spiritual lives, this foundation is our faith in Christ. It is through prayer, scripture, and fellowship that we strengthen this foundation. Let us use this season as an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God, ensuring that when the storms of life come, we remain steadfast and unshaken.

The Power of Community

Hurricanes remind us of the strength found in community. We come together, sharing resources and offering support to one another. Similarly, our spiritual journey is not meant to be walked alone. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages us to "spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together...but encouraging one another."

Our church community is a source of support and encouragement. In times of hardship and uncertainty, we are called to bear each other's burdens and lift each other up. Let's make a conscious effort to reach out, offering help and companionship, especially to those who might be feeling vulnerable or isolated.

Being the Light in the Storm

During a hurricane, the loss of power can plunge our homes into darkness. But even a single candle can dispel that darkness, providing comfort and guidance. In the same way, Jesus calls us to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16). Our faith and actions should shine brightly, offering hope and direction to those around us.

As we prepare for potential hurricanes, let us also prepare to be beacons of God's love and grace. Whether through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, or simply being present, we can make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by life's storms.

Practical and Spiritual Readiness

Practical readiness for hurricane season involves creating an emergency kit, knowing evacuation routes, and having a communication plan. Similarly, spiritual readiness involves daily prayer, studying the Word of God, and engaging in meaningful worship. By cultivating these habits, we equip ourselves to handle not only physical storms but also the emotional and spiritual challenges that come our way.

In closing, let us remember that our ultimate security and peace comes from God. Psalm 46:1 reminds us, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble." As we brace for the physical storms of this season, let us also take the time to prepare our hearts and spirits, trusting in God's steadfast love and protection.

May we all find strength, hope, and peace in our faith, and may we support each other with Christ-like love as we navigate this hurricane season together.

WANTED!

Native English speakers willing to spend 6 Monday nights

(from July 22 to August 26) as small-group English conversation facilitators helping Chilean students improve their English and sowing Gospel seeds in their lives!

No teaching experience is necessary.

Each Monday, everyone connects on ZOOM from 6:45 pm to 8:45 pm, Central Time. At 7:00 pm there is a large group lesson led by missionaries, followed later by small group breakouts where each facilitator will have 3-4 students. The topics for small groups are already established, with training videos available, so that preparation time is minimal.

Each week a short Bible narrative is presented (for example, Jesus raising Jairus’s daughter), and at the end of the course we will organize a celebration locally, allowing missionaries face-to-face opportunity to share the Lord with lost Chileans who took the online class!

We are happy to answer any questions, and we grateful in advance for those who volunteer for this outreach!

God is good!

Child abuse happens where the barriers are the lowest, and, sadly, the barriers are low in many churches. Would you be surprised to know that having a check-in system, the rule of three, and conducting worker background checks will not protect the children in your church? When it comes to child abuse, we can’t prevent what we don’t fully understand.

Click this link to hear a special message from SBTC Executive Director Nathan Lorick and MinistrySafe about how you can take the next steps to protect the children in your church. At the close of the video the SBTC will offer to pay for your church’s first year’s MinistrySafe membership, which provides a complete child safety system, forms, and training.
