SCTPO Joins Safety Partners at Pedestrian Safety Pop-Up
Earlier this Summer, SCTPO Community Engagement Coordinator, Leah Nepo, joined Best Foot Forwardโs sign-waving event at Port Malabar Blvd NE & Veterans Memorial Park to promote pedestrian safety.
We were proud to stand alongside amazing community partnersโ Palm Bay Police Department, City of Palm Bay staff, Bike/Walk Central Florida, and Health First, who showed up in full force to support this life-saving cause. The crosswalk where partners waved signs currently has only a 12% driver yield rate. Events like this raise awareness, encourage safer driver behavior, and help reduce traffic crashes and fatalities.

Teamwork Takes Flight at the 2025 SCTPO Staff Retreat
In June, our team hit the ground running for a full day of exploration, insight, and connection. We kicked things off with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Melbourne Orlando International Airport - MLB, complete with incredible photo ops on the runway and inside the control tower!
From there, we took Space Coast Area Transit to the Melbourne Square Transfer Center and walked Evans Rd. to US 192 & Hollywood Blvd., where we saw firsthand the safety and mobility improvements we helped fund through our planning and prioritization process. After a walk to lunch, we returned to the airport and closed out the day learning more about each otherโs individual strengths and team dynamics, topped off with some fun staff superlatives! Our annual retreat is a chance to walk the walk, strengthen our team, and see the real-world impact of our work.
