Zonta Club of Northampton Area
We started planning for the club’s 90th Anniversary in July of 2024. Since it was going to take a long time to research the history and make preparations, get funding, etc., it was voted to delay the celebration until March 2025, which was late by one year, but who’s counting! With the help of many friends and family members, our club members pulled together to make it the most impressive party ever.
With Carolyn Geer, CEO of International Language Institute, as MC, the program ran smoothly and elegantly in the fabulous facilities of Collaborative for Educational Services. And the video presentations prepared by Angela Burke tied it all together seamlessly. Nine $250 awards were made in the name of the nine honorees: journalist Alice Scott Ross, Professor and Ikebana Master Verda Dale, Computer Engineer and Past District Governor Lynn Goodhue, Linguist Lexi Johnson, Past District Governor Linda Gibbon, 50 year member Audrey Millgate, Farmer and artist Ava Blum-Carr, ILI Student Maedeh Ghasemzadeh, Community Activist Lisa Lapierre. Honoree donations were made to Zonta International Foundation; Girls Inc.; Community Action's Young Family Program; International Language Institute and Western Massachusetts Asylum Support.
Zonta Club of South County Rhode Island
Members held a Period Project & Period Poverty Awareness Week During April and early May, the club collected cash and feminine hygiene products to donate to local organizations and schools. They assembled 98 kits and a number of boxes of various products. For women and girls living with homelessness or poverty, having a period is a financial burden that often causes shame and embarrassment. Basic menstrual hygiene products are costly, but pads and tampons are considered “non-essential” by the federal government, so they are not covered by SNAP and WIC programs. What’s more, women and teens who are homeless or financially strapped often lack consistent access to hygiene products. Annual Report link
