July is Hopping at the Jefferson Street Farmers Market

Downtown Burlington is in full swing as the Jefferson Street Farmers Market continues its 2025 season. Organized by Downtown Partners, Inc., the market brings the community together every Thursday evening with local produce, handmade goods, fresh food, and live entertainment.

The month of July is sponsored by U.S. Bank, N.A., whose support is helping to create an exceptional market experience. Shoppers, families, and friends are enjoying a great time Downtown, with something new to discover each week. From vibrant vendor booths to live performances and engaging family activities, the market is the place to be on Thursday nights.

The Jefferson Street Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 4:30 to 7:00 PM on Jefferson Street between 3rd and 7th Street. Guests can expect a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, honey, flowers, crafts, prepared meals, and much more. With the street closed to traffic, visitors are encouraged to stroll freely and explore everything the market has to offer.

Downtown’s Alleys Get an Artistic Upgrade - And You Can Help!

Downtown Burlington is known for its historic charm, vibrant events, and ever-growing sense of community, and now, its alleyways are getting a makeover. What was once overlooked is being transformed into a destination of its own, thanks to a new placemaking initiative led by Downtown Partners, Inc.

This summer, visitors may notice whimsical touches popping up in unexpected places. From colorful murals to creative seating, ambient lighting, and added greenery, the goal is to reimagine our alleys as more than just passageways, they're becoming spaces for connection, relaxation, and community pride.

Thursday July 3, at the Jefferson Street Farmers Market... it’s going to get electric! Join us for a Community Dumpster Painting Party with It’s Electric Entertainment spinning the tunes while YOU help us turn an ordinary dumpster into a work of art!

Snake Alley Festival of Film July 10-13

Enjoy four days of independent short films and screenplays. The Snake Alley Festival of Film (SNAFF) is dedicated to showcasing the best short films from around the world.

The annual summer event has celebrated the unique art of storytelling since 2012, showcasing an exceptional array of films and screenplays from both established and emerging filmmakers.

Get ready for one of the most thrilling fundraising events of the year! Over the Edge is returning to Downtown Burlington on Saturday, August 9, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rappel down the side of the Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust building, all to benefit a great cause.

Hosted by United Way of Southeast Iowa, this high-adrenaline event invites community members to step outside their comfort zones and step over the edge to raise funds for local programs focused on health, education, and financial stability.

Whether you're an adventurer seeking a new challenge, a dedicated supporter of community causes, or just want to cheer on your brave friends and neighbors, this event is an unforgettable way to give back. Every dollar raised stays right here in Southeast Iowa, making a direct impact in the lives of those who need it most.

Splash Pad Fun Lights Up the Riverfront

Kids are having a blast cooling off at Burlington’s riverfront splash pad, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most scenic spots in town. With the newly lighted Great River Bridge glowing in the background, the water jets and colorful lights create a magical setting for families to enjoy summer evenings together.

It’s the perfect place to beat the heat, take in the view, and make lasting summer memories in Downtown Burlington.

Main Street Challenge Grant Applications Now Open

Local Deadline: Today, July 1

Downtown Burlington property owners have an exciting opportunity to receive up to $100,000 in funding for building improvement projects through the Main Street Challenge Grant.

Offered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority, this grant supports brick-and-mortar revitalization efforts in designated Main Street communities like Downtown Burlington. Eligible projects within the Downtown district may include façade improvements, building rehabilitations, adaptive reuse, or new construction.

Applications will be evaluated based on preservation standards, architectural significance, and overall community impact. Award amounts range from $25,000 to $100,000, and a minimum 1:1 cash match is required.

Local applications are due by July 1.

Downtown Partners, Inc. Business Signage Grant Program offers applicants up to $400 in matching grant funds for perpendicular “blade” signage for their businesses!

Blade signs have several benefits:

• Accentuating the traditional historic and walkable character of Downtown Burlington
• Emphasizing the Downtown district as a collection of small, independent, locally owned businesses
• Adding to the liveliness of the streetscape
• Freeing up sidewalk space occupied by sandwich board signs
• Encouraging businesses to explore their individuality and examine their branding
• Increasing business visibility for potential customers who would otherwise not know anything about the business unless they were directly in front of it
