Pedestrian Bridge Replacement at Flectcher's Flats

Please be advised that Park Development Staff are planning a pedestrian bridge replacement project at Fletcher's Flats (P-428) this month, as part of the Parks’ pedestrian bridge lifecycle replacement program.

At this time, the bridge closure is planned from the week of July 14 to the first week of August for bridge removal, site repair and bridge replacement, weather permitting. Project signs will be posted at locations along the trails with alternative routes during the construction period. I hope you enjoy using the new pedestrian bridge when it is completed.

Streetsville BIA Parking Update

As you may know from my previous update to the community, Staff brought a report to Planning Committee on June 23 with reduced parking requirements for the SBIA, which was unanimously approved by Committee. Some properties in the commercial core have minimal or no parking spaces and must pay fees to apply for parking variances and/or fees for parking in lieu (PIL) as they are unable to provide the required number of parking spaces on their property. This financial burden is usually the responsibility of new small business owners and can be a barrier to successfully starting a small business. Most parking in the Streetsville BIA is shared, on-street, etc., so this parking amendment will help better support small businesses in the commercial core. This decision was supported by Council on June 25.

Seniors Ages 65+ Can Ride MiWay for Free with a PRESTO Card

I am pleased to advise that seniors ages 65 and older can ride MiWay for free with a PRESTO card set to the senior fare type. As you may know from my previous budget updates, Budget Committee and Council approved free transit for seniors as part of the City budget.

Seniors can set the fare type on their card by visiting a customer service outlet and showing proof of age. PRESTO cards that are not set to a specific fare type will be charged the $3.40 Adult PRESTO single fare. Please contact MiWay Customer Service at 905-615-4636 or visit miway.ca for more information.
