Are you confused about the meaning of “cash flow” and feeling lost when it comes to how to correctly plan for the launch of a new venture? Any business owner with basic Excel skills can create the spreadsheet necessary to satisfy a lender that you’re competent to execute the opening of your new operation successfully. Will it help to engage an accountant or a business advisor for this task? Perhaps. But it’s more likely that you have information in your head that’s essential to putting the financial plan on paper.
So, don’t think this is a project that can be hired out. In fact, if you are wise, you’ll continue to modify and update the spreadsheet as the business begins to gain altitude.

Tax bills were mailed on June 20th, 2025
Changes to the Motor Vehicle tax calculation
A reminder for Business Owners with Company Vehicles
| | |
The first installment of real estate, personal property, and motor vehicle taxes on the October 1, 2024, Grand List were due and payable on July 1, 2025 and will be assessed penalties beyond August 1, 2025. The Revenue Collection Office mailed tax bills on Friday, June 20.
This year, the formula used to calculate motor vehicles has changed. Check out the calculator feature on the Assessment Office web page. Enter your plate number, and the assessment value will automatically appear. Multiply that number by the statewide mill rate of 32.46 mills to get your total tax bill amount.
As of October 1, 2024, all Assessment Departments in Connecticut will use the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of each vehicle and apply the depreciation schedule to calculate the depreciated value of each vehicle. This depreciated value will then be multiplied by the statewide assessment ratio of 70% to determine the vehicle's assessed value for taxation. The vehicle's assessed value will decrease yearly based on the depreciation schedule, but will never fall below a $500 assessment for taxation purposes. The assessment is then multiplied by the statewide mill rate of 32.46.
