Summer Volatility

Energy rates in New York State have been steadily climbing this summer. Customers not on fixed pricing have seen extreme volatility, with hourly prices exceeding $0.30/kWh multiple times in June and early July as temperatures skyrocketed. With rising fuel costs, increasing energy demand, weather-driven spikes, and continued support for policies promoting the clean energy transition, energy supply costs have support to continue their bullish run.

Fixed energy rates provide predictability. If you prefer cost certainty and want to avoid the risk of future price spikes, now is a time to review fixed rate options. For more details, or to discuss your individual energy strategy, please reach out to us at info@megaenergy.org.

The Impact of the OBBB on New York's Energy Market

The “One Big Beautiful Bill” introduces sweeping changes to energy policy with deep implications for New York State. As federal tax credits for renewables begin to phase out, clean energy projects face mounting financial challenges that could stall progress on key climate goals. Local governments, already navigating tight budgets, may see rising energy costs and fewer incentives for sustainable upgrades. With past gains from the Inflation Reduction Act now at risk, the path ahead requires careful planning and strong leadership to align federal shifts with New York’s ambitious energy future.
