Message from Mayor

As we welcome July, I hope each of you have the opportunity to play and relax in and around our wonderful Town. With summer now in full swing, please be mindful of the temperatures and safely enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
I want to once again thank Sheriff Hartman for attending our June Town Council meeting and providing his annual Law Enforcement update. The video of his presentation is available on the Town’s website and I encourage all of you to see a replay of his message.
As part of Sheriff Hartman’s presentation, he shared that our Community Officer Josh Whitlock will be leaving that role. A resident of Davie County, Officer John Hobson, has transitioned into that position and is fully engaged in Town law enforcement matters. We will be introducing Officer Hobson in our July Town Council meeting.
Also in the June meeting, our Town Council approved our 2025-26 Town Budget. As noted by our Town Manager, Andrew Meadwell, this budget encompasses our General Fund, Utility Fund, and Gate Operations. I want to again thank our Town staff for their many months of work to create and refine this budget, and I want to thank our Town Council for their continued leadership in approving our financial path forward for this fiscal year.
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our first two outdoor events in June. Our Town Green continues to provide such a great venue for families to enjoy music, games and a variety of food truck menu options. Thank you to Town staff for working with our partner, Sunny Day Markets, to coordinate these events. Please continue to monitor our Town’s website and social media pages as more events are planned over the coming months.
As I noted in my May message, it is important to me that you are connected to those who lead your Town, from time to time I will ask members of our Town Council to contribute their thoughts as part of this monthly message. So, Council Member Rod Guthrie has provided some thoughts in this month’s message.
Message from Council Member Rod Guthrie
As the newest member of the Town Council, let me first say that I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve our community in this way. As my lovely wife Diane and I approach twenty years as residents of this special place, I have seen significant changes brought about by the sustained growth we have experienced. Our location along the I-40 corridor, and the abundant natural assets we enjoy, have drawn new residents and businesses to make our Town home. While these changes present challenges such as increased vehicle traffic, managing property development to preserve our quality of life, and the increasing costs of providing the needed services all residents expect, I am convinced we as a community are up to the challenges.
As a Council member and your neighbor I encourage each resident, regardless of your address, to be engaged. Please, stay tuned in to the efforts of your town staff and elected officials, speak up when you have compliments as well as questions or criticisms, and volunteer your time when you can. Take a walk on the Blue Heron Trail, support our local businesses and, by all means, feel free to contact your Town Council members as you feel the need. Last, but not least, enjoy your summer!
